I need to know as soon as humanly possible cause i have to order them tomorrow. Which tire to go with. I have the Kumho spt's now. They have been a great set of tires. Im looking for some a little better performance wise. I have been looking at the mx''s. Should i do the Mx's or go with the Falken Azenis rt 615s? or is there any other options people think that would be great.

I like my BF Goodrich GForce Sports. Reliable tire so far and not terribly expensive.

Falken Azenis RT615 = Slightly better grip, slightly worse wear.

Kumho Ecsta MX = Slightly worse grip, slightly better wear.

It all depends on what's important to you!

Yeah, but not in the same class as the tires he's considering. The BFGoodrich equivalent would be gForce Sport KD, which cost an arm and a leg!

True true, if thats the case I'd go with the Falkens, it is summer after all!!!

See thats the thing they arent all that cheap, but my dad insist that we go to this place. I can get the falkens put on and balanced and have a warranty for $608. and the khumos, with the same kinda deal, but $625. I also go to this place cause i dont have to start paying for them for 3 months. hehe

I hate to disagree with you but....

I had a set of the MX's on my car, hollis curently has them now. I put 3 track days and bunch of miles on them and was really really happy with them. When it came time to get another set I got the 615's and I am not overly impressed with them I think they actually wear better ( longer ) than the MX's did since I have been trying to kill them because I dont really like them and they are lasting through insane burnouts and general abuse. I dont think they hold the road as well as the MX's did either. And the MX's let you know when they were running on the edge the 615's do not.

I would take the Kumho's over the falkens any day of the week no questions. And I have ran both on the same car back to back. I would gladly pay a little more for the kuhmo's because they are worth it.

I hope my reply isnt to late to be worth looking at.

Well its been decided, i am going to order the Kumho Mx from tire rack and have a place i know put them on. Its going to be like 200 bux cheaper that way. Oh yeah, and if anyone wants the Kumho mx'x they have been discontinued. So nobody can get them. The only place i found that has them is tire rack and sears. hehe

THE SPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I swear, why do companies that make race proven and AFFORDABLE parts kill them off and replace them with something crappy and expensive:mad: Take Kosei....The K1's were cheap really good auto X wheels.....and now.....their almost gone form tirerack's inventory!!! I was pissed when I heard that Falken's *new* 615's were $50.00 more a tire for my size than the previous generation......

the spt was a replacement for the 712s. I do not know what their replacement is for the MX.

I have the Yoko's AVS ES 100's on now. Just about time for a change, maybe two more months. Looking for something else... any thoughts. I was thinking some Kuhmos. The tread life on my Yoko's went fast after I put H-sport springs on. I need to adjsut the rear camber (control arms). That's the next project.

No complaints about the Yoko's. They're great in the twsity bits and nice looking as well. Fairly inexpensive as well. My next tire will have to be about the same cost as well $90-$115 a tire. any thoughts?

I've been hearing about Ecsta MX being discontinued for almost two years now, but I've been able to get them through Tire Rack and other sources. Not sure what that's all about, but they better have a good replacement lined up.

As Hollis said, the Kumho Ecsta SPT is a replacement for the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, not for the MX.

yeah i knew that much. Tire rack seems to be the only place with them, also for fairly cheap. Just outta curiousity, does anyone know any place else?

Check it out. Im bout to order my tires right now, what would be the difference in 205 vs. 215. I know its wider but is it bad, I would like to have 45 instead of 40, but the only thing they offer is 215.

Brain

215/40/17 there is little difference.

Just be a tad more cautious going over bumps.....I found that out when I switched from a 55 seriers tire to a 50 series. (On 15in whells though;) )

Chase
06-27-2006, 07:19 PM
ok. Im still not sure though. Im a little nervous about getting 215's instead of the 205. I dont know why

Slow Paul

Chase
06-27-2006, 07:22 PM
no, just the way it fits and ride quality, Will it change anything?

should be really close to the same tire sizes are done in % and the 2 sizes arent that far off.

the 215 vs. the 205?

Slow Paul
06-27-2006, 07:27 PM
The 215's will fit fine, in terms of ride quality....it will suffer, but it will (should) be barley noticable. After all, wider IS better! When I went from the stock  175's:eek: that cam with my Cooper, to 205's.....I was VERY happy. I think 205 to 215 is optimal for the MINI.

Brain
06-27-2006, 07:30 PM
yep, and your pm box is full :)

you will be fine with the 40's I have hit some HUGE bumps and railroad tracks at speed and havent popped a tire yet.

Chase
06-27-2006, 07:32 PM
hehe I just emptied it. I am wanting to go up in size form 40 to 45. I was just curious about the 205vs. the 215. to see if the ride quality will change in the twisties or whatever

06-27-2006, 08:54 PM
My 215/45/17's don't rub since I've dropped the car. They did a little bit when I first put them on, but only on really hard corners do they rub now.

Brain

I guess it really depends on the offset and how low your car is. I bet they would rub on mine :)

simplygriff
06-27-2006, 09:12 PM
I think it does come down to that. For clarification I have H-Sport springs and +45 offset Rota wheels. :)
