We're putting new 20" wheels on our FX35 (stock size for the Sport pkg), but I'm torn by the classic dilemma: Go cheap or be a baller. :laff: I mean...I can spend $1k or I can spend $6K and anywhere in between. :disbelief Can I afford it? Sure. Do I want to spend this much?

I ordered a set of Volk GT-Force but Mackin screwed up and sent 5x115 which won't fit - no more 5x114.3's left after waiting for weeks for them to finish an inventory.

$1k shipped for these:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/PatagonianGT/FX35/prvnet.jpg

or, I can score some BBS RS-GT for $3650/shipped.

What say MU?

The BBS are balla, but the Volks would be GANGSTER!!!!!!!! 20" for that FX35 are a must!!!!!! :tu:

PGT

the only Volks I can get are GT-C's in gunmetal. Mackin will do them for an even swap. Thing is, they look like every cheap copy out there, along with other quality ones like SSR D5R, Maya, etc.

The Privat wheels pictured first are 32lbs and cast (same as the Volk GT-C's, while the GT-Force were 37lbs). The RS-GT come in at 23lbs. :mrt: that's lighter than many 17's.

The bigger question is the rationality of spending $$$$$ on wheels. <ponders>

not a fan of either for the FX....it needs something more bold and thick looking....not so detailed.

If I had to pick, even though I love BBS, I would opt for the first picture in your first post...more "techno, or modern" than the BBS. Closer in style to the edgy and modern FX.

I slept on it, then woke up and placed an order for the RS-GT's Saturday AM. I couldn't sleep well the rest of the weekend.....I called this morning and canceled. That's a metric s***-ton of money and I can't justify it...I'm not 100% on the looks for the FX and at that price, I should be.

Here's what changed my mind (someone on the FX boards bought a staggered set and posted pics):

yeah, don't like how those RS's look...glad you canceled that order....

this is still my favorite, and with lower profile tires, and a lowered car...WAY HAWT!!! If you can get them with a darker spoke, and polished rim...now that would be cool.

if we get a set, it will be grey/anthracite with polished lip because it's the sexay. Considering some Maya's, but truth be told, we both like the stock wheels but now how much they tuck when lowered. Some FX'ers run 25mm spacers to correct this. I'm looking into this now...

we decided not to buy anything at this point. my wife loves the stock wheels and we've been waiting for a month now to put new tires on....the wheels that arrived weren't correct and just about anything we'd like to put on carries a super high price tag and a month long wait at minimum. The FX goes in tomorrow for new rubber...the shop has been nice and held the tires for us this long.

Dr. Stylo

PGT

Yokohama Parada Spec-X. All-season, but barely. :laff: basic snow cabability. They were mounted on Thursday ($147!! at the shop).......wife says it rides a bit stiffer, but feels better. I give it a whirl.....sidewall stiffness is much better than stock rubber....good turn-in and grip. I can throw all 4600lbs into a turn pretty hard and the diffs and rubber work....no drama. Ride quality in my mind is about the same, but I don't drive it every day. The stock rubber were Goodyear RSA's. Interestingly, the Yoko's are a bit taller and narrower even though they are the same size, yet they work better.

thanks. These are 18x9ET40. I wish they were more like an ET32, but this is what Mackin had available (LE37T are discontinued). Still better than the stock set which was 18 for normal or 20x8ET40 for Sport.

A lot of lowered FX guys run 25mm spacers on the stock wheels to fill out the wheelwells. I got half way there but most importantly, the extra wheel width makes the sidewalls look more vertical...the 265/50/20's had a bulge on the stock wheels.

well, I was worried about too much sidewall. The dubs look awesome...they just ride like poop. I save 20lbs on the wheels alone...this set should ride better in many ways.....more sidewall, less aggressive tire and MUCH lower unsprung weight. I love the lowered stance, but it's choppy with the stiff 20" Yokohama that were on there (and they sucked in the snow, so meh).
