MINI Countryman "Sports Activity Vehicle"

Mini Moke

When your whole brand centers on a single retro icon, success hinges upon stirring the pot with niche variations on the central theme. The latest Mini's slightly larger platform affords greater bandwidth for such riffing, including the possibility of all-wheel drive. Hence, the beloved Jeep-like Moke and even a micro pickup truck variant are now possible. The original doorless, canopy-topped Moke had its roots in military duty, but a new one would be aimed at crossover buyers in the U.S. and likely would be assembled in Spartanburg, South Carolina, around 2010.
TO SUM UP: At what point does Mini become Maxi?

Is that a mini or a FJ Crusier?

I think MINI can go a little larger than the CLUBMAN without much problem in terms of the brand as long as the "look" is still "small"

R50 MC = 142 inches
R56 MC = 145.6 inches
R55 Clubman = R56 + 18 inches = 164 inches

For Comparison
Audi A3 = 169 inches
Honda Civic (2DR) = 175 inches
Subaru Impreza Wagon = 176 inches
Volvo V50 = 178 inches

I totally want one, but will they really come out with one that is functional? And with quality. I want an FJ Cruiser, in blue or silver, which will be our next car purchase sometime spring/summer 2008. I guess I have thing for cars with white roofs :)

the moke wasnt an SUV....why would they call that a moke?

I think it looks pretty cool! The r56 in my opinion is all about building a platform that can be adapted to produce a lot of different vehicles, unlike the r50. :tu:

I thought MINI already built an SUV:

MINI SUV Anyone?

BMW is about to release this year the wagon version of the new MINI named, Clubman. Rumors say that parent company BMW has already given the approval to produce yet another derivative to be added to the MINI model range. It will be a compact SUV reminiscent of the very first MINI off-roaders, Austin Ant and MINI Moke. BMW marketers would most likely re-use the iconic name of the latter which saw 50,000 units built back in the Sixties.

Since an SUV will be of particular interest for the U.S. market, BMWs California based Designworks Studios have already given the variant some thought. Exploiting the flexible production line capabilities of BMW's U.S. Spartanburg plant, the MINI Moke could possibly be built alongside the BMW X5 and Z4 Roadster. However, the Moke's release is not expected until the end of the decade.

The photos are showing:

*2 photos of the upcoming Mini Clubman during final testing in France.
*Distinctly visible the new door system of the car.
