Springs then Coils
 
When the weather warms up I will be putting a nice new set of wheels on the MINI. I know from seeing the wheels on the previous owners car, that the MINI will look funny unless its lowered.

My question is, is it silly to spend 200 on springs(H sport or TSW) and 600 on shocks (FSD's) or should I just save that money and get coils?

If I had to do it again, don't waste your money on springs and shocks... just save the little extra and get coils.

unless you're really broke, get H-sport springs and run them with your stock shocks/struts (they are strong enough to last for good bit of time and actually ride really well)

If money is a problem i would get springs now....and when you are ready to upgrade, instead of moving to FSD's....just sell the springs and get coilovers

I dont think h-sports will lower it enough for those wheels though

I thought the H-sports would lower alittle more than the h&r's.

H-Sports with stock shocks/struts rode pretty damn close to stock ride... very little bit rougher.

Generally the h-sports lower the least out of all springs....they are only an inch or so from what I've heard. Konky ran h-sports on his.

H&R + M7 seemed to lower a bit more and tuck a little tire in back on MCS's

Cant find good pics of H&R's on an mcs....but these should help. Both with 17s

with how low I have them set, it's rougher, but I also have my rear sway set to full stiff.

It's worth the look though :D :tu:

The lowering spring/ Koni FSD combo is no good.....the FSD's are ment to be used with the stock springs. I have the Esplier springs and they dropped my car about 1.3 inches all around. If you want a good spring and shock combo there is the Bilstein SP/ H&R combo, a tried and true set up, or the Koni Yellow (adjustable)/ M7 Springs combo. The M7 springs will lower your MINI a bit more than the H&R. You'll spend about $800-$1,000 for a good set-up.

Try and save the $ and get what you want the first time. If you have to ask yourself should you get springs or coil overs then you already know the answer...lol Actually though it really depends on what you are looking for. Are you wanting adjustability, ride quality, handling or just the "look"

I started out with springs and struts and wasnt happy with the combo, I switched to coil overs and never looked back.
