R53 to R56 brake swap question
I heard a rumor that to get the improved barking I was hoping for with the R56 brakes I need to swap out the master cylinder. It kind of makes sense...given that the piston in the R56 brakes is bigger, you need more fluid to push it the same distance and the limiting factor in fluid volume is the master cylinder.

Any truth to that?

No..... You do not need to swap the master.

Never heard of that one before.

Ive read a lot of posts regarding people putting R56 brakes onto R53s and they never once mentioned the need to upgrade the master cylinder.

The 2nd Gen GP has a bigger master cylinder to handle the bigger brakes.... But that may be because the change was from 4 going to 6 pistons on the front...

had r56s brakes on mine for awhile; installed by a MINI tech, no master cylinder swap needed

what Snip's says make sense (and I did not know that the new one had 6 piston brakes, hmmm)

Yeah the new GP has the same 6 piston brakes as the 135i.

I think the R53 could benefit from a larger master with the R56 brakes.
