Short notice, but there is a BMWCCA autocross at California Speedway tomorrow.
  • Gates open at 6 AM
  • Registration starts at 7 AM
  • First come, first served, no preregistration.
  • Priority is given to BMWCCA members. Non-members are put on a list until 7:45 AM then if there are any spots left, the non-members get them.
  • You can become a BMWCCA member today on the BMWCCA website and print the e-mail confirmation to take with you tomorrow.
  • BMWCCA membership is $40
  • The Autocross is $65 and includes lunch
Matt from Mininuts and I are both planning on competing.

We had 5 or 6 MCS's today and me with the only MC. I won the A-class (on account of no other MC's being there. ), but my times were competitive with some of the MCS times in B-class. Next time I'm considering bumping up a class to get some competition and get the MC ranked against the MCS's.

Rory from SCMM won B class in his MCS with r-compounds.

Everyone I talked to had an excellent time. The next L.A. chapter BMWCCA autocross is out in June at Hollywood Park, but the San Diego chapter is having one before then.

It would be nice to see more MINIs out there next time including some more Coopers! (I'll stay in A if some other Coopers show up).

Dave

Our Coopers seem to be dropping off Dave...

I hope we can get a few people to these coming up.

Congrats too - not just for winning A, but for being competitive with the 'S' cars.

hmmmm hollywood park is pretty close to my house. I just might be down for that depending on the date.

I am just a little hesitant to spend a day driving around cones in a parking lot, I know its a great skilled event but I really like to HAUL ASS, nothing like entering a corner at 100+ or trying to scrub enough speed off from 100+ to make the next turn.

I really have to try it before I can be positive if its for me or not. Something about the speed intensity that gets me!

FWIW, we got 4 runs in the morning, 4 runs in the afternoon, and then 3 timed laps for trophies. 11 runs in an autocross is a HUGE number. Most SCCA events you'd get about half that.

Running autocross is really quite a bit different than running on the track. I find on the track it's easier to keep your head up and looking down the course, where with autocross your vision shifts to a closer in focus to read the cones/course. Also, by design, you rarely get out of second gear in autocross. As a result there is a lot more focus on tighter cornering.

I'm down to do the next one (if I'm in town) I've never done an auto X before...sounds like fun.

Check out my other two threads in this forum. There is a BMWCCA autocross in San Diego in early June, and another in L.A. in mid-June.
