Default San Diego BMWCCA Autocross - September 9th

LOCATION: Qualcomm West Lot (San Diego)

TIMES:
  • 6:30 AM gates open
  • 7:00 AM tech opens
  • 7:00 AM registration opens with priority to BMW and MINI owners
  • 7:45 AM registration opens to non-bmws, any BMW/MINIs arriving after 7:45 are processed in order with the non-bmw's.
  • 8:20 AM tech closes
  • 8:30 AM registration closes
FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. 100 car limit (NOTE: this is up from 80)

The one day SD BMWCCA events have a history of filling up early. Plan on arriving before the 7 AM registration formally opens to get a number at the gate.

You must be a BMWCCA member ($40 and totally worth it for the Roundel magazine and the chapter newsletters)

Cost for one day is $45 per day.

CLASSING: the San Diego chapter has one MINI COOPER class, so all the MINIs are thrown into the mix against each other (supercharger or not).

List of those planning on competing
  1. Charlie
  2. Joe
  3. Jerry
  4. Dave
  5. Matt
  6. Paul
  7. Glen

  • Fastest Cooper (non-s) - a jug of Karl Strauss'

Looking like another strong event coming up with 11 or 12 MINIs already planning on attending.

I am really going to try to make this event! I love the SDBMWCCA Auto X's. They are very well run and lots of fun.

Is Gordon Anderson still running the autocrosses? They are really well done, I used to be a volunteer for them. I know we battled about MINI classification for a long time. First they wanted to run them in X class (non BMW) then the modified 4 banger class, now the MINI class. Is this one on the large lot? I actually prefer the smaller tighter courses on the other side of the stadium. More fun to watch the horsepower monsters try to actually drive!

Not much has changed since you were there last. Gordan is still running them and they are still using the West lot with some pretty wide open courses that aren't very Cooper friendly.

The L.A. chapter events aren't as well run, but they do have tighter courses, so it's a bit of a mixed bag either way.

Just renewed my club membership, and will plan on being there on the 9th. I think my helmet may now be too old, so I'll have to check. Otto's is too small to squeeze this melon into!

Be kind to the newbie with a stock MCS!

Larry,

There is also a thread on NAM about this event
http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...ad.php?t=73983

I just added you to the list over there.

I'm sure you remember this but SD BMWCCA also does helmet rental if you need it. It's $5 or $10 for the event as I recall.

See you on the 9th!

Dave

Otto can come - and ride along with an instructor maybe... I've seen them take people for rides in their cars... he might like it. He can't ride along with you though...

Dave, put me down as a 'likely' I think I might try to get there this time... I'll be in town finally~

Cool. I just added you to the list as well.

We're up to 15 or 16 MINI participants now for the 9th

My daughter used to go along for the instructor rides, so I am sure Otto will do the same.

The best was when they took my daughter out at Buttonwillow. Each corner worker called in that she was smiling from ear to ear!

SCCA has kart classes for their autocrosses, wonder if they'll let Otto bring his out?

I've never seen a kart out at the BMWCCA autocrosses (L.A. or San Diego).
