Default Do Werk! A VW guy's R53

I don't have a catchy name for her yet, as I really haven't had her too long...

Bought at 70k and it still has less than 73k.

I've begun to sort her out nicely though, and now I feel like it's time for a garage thread instead of bumping my newbie intro thread....

And along with that, I'd like to have a couple of mu stickers if possible so I can rep them on the car.

Thanks to mu for helping me along the way, especially in picking out my tires, but for all the other info you've given me so far in modding this thing....

I knew not a thing about Mini's when I stumbled into this one and am glad I found out about this site through Rally right away at the Nam.

So far I've gotten the chance to put a 15% Detroit tuned pulley and plugs in it as far as motivation goes, but there are many other things I'd like to do as money allows.

I chose to spend the most up front getting her looking right, so I went with the Forgelines after-all so I could get the right stance....

There are so many wheels out there, but none of them looked good to me, and if they did they were always too big, not the right bolt pattern, or just not right.

I really wanted the RML Snowflakes, but they denied me as they were having problems with their suppliers and couldn't give me a definite answer, even after a few months of waiting.

So in came the Forgeline idea.
The SOP3's were definitely the right choice, and I can't thank Forgeline enough for their guidance and expertise throughout the process either.

It helps to have them right here in my hometown, but even if you deal with them over the phone or internet they'll get it right the first time and get you a beautiful and unique set of wheels you won't see on every other Mini out there, or cars in general.
They turned these around for me on a really short deadline too, as I wanted to get them on before our big event we just had this past weekend.

They're 17"x8" up front and 8.5's in the rear with a 32 offset.

Matte gray powder-coated centers with flat black bolts and a polished lip.

These things are a Perfect match for the car, 100%!

They were the ones that talked me into the SOP3's, as I was going back and forth between a couple of the choices I had with them to get a 17

Thanks to you guys I did end up going with the Falken 512's and they worked out like a treat.

The coil-over's are H&R RS S Clubsports, and I'm glad I spent the extra money on them for the dampening and other qualities that I wouldn't have gotten in a V Maxx and others out there for less.

I have a tad bit of rubbing at times, but nothing too major....I haven't dragged the skid plate on anything yet, so I'm doing good...

My front left flare already has a broken clip on it, so I guess it's only a matter of time till I have to order new ones or try to combat it some other way...
If anyone has any tricks or feedback concerning this please let me know.

Other than, I'd like to see if there's anything I can do with what feels to be a result of going so low with it....
When I start out in first and second gears it's most noticeable, but what's the deal with the shimmy I've got now?
I'm certain it's got something to do with the axle geometry or rubbing or something, but I haven't gotten a chance to get it in the air to investigate.

Other than that, the only other thing I plan to do right away is window tint and some regular maint. type things that need to be done and she's going to go into hibernation for the Winter soon along with the Beetle.

I have a dent to fix now from a little mishap a few weeks ago and don't know if a PDR guy can get it out or if it's more of a body shop type thing.

I love this car and see myself keeping it for quite awhile....which I hardly ever do, HAHA!
Nothing else out there really compares in the looks and handling dept.....just needs a little more power and a nice sounding note and I'll be even happier.

Anyways, thanks again and I'll look forward to seeing what all you guys are doing to your rides and I'll keep you updated on mine.

Here's the day I signed the paperwork

And the finished product, last Friday when I picked her up at Forgeline.

The camber is hard to see in the pics, but I love it....
I know a lot of people get the correction kits, but I'll take a little tire wear any day for the right stance.

I hope to get some more professional pictures sometime soon, especially some rolling shots.

HAHA! Yeah....I'm not quite done dialing her in yet....

Thanks for the comments...

I really wanted to catch up with the couple of you that made it to the Dash and wanted to thank you again for coming out.

I was torn down Sunday and went home to shower and rest a couple of hours, so i was kinda worthless.

That guy that wrecked his Mercedes had me up all night and a nervous wreck.....definitely threw me off my game and was a huge buzz-kill.

Any words of advise on that half-shafts? That's what it's gotta be....

Just live with it?

The shimmy will go away once new grooves are formed.
