i went back to my "home" trail system last night. it was just the confidence builder i needed. 1.5 hours on trails that i know and expect is a great way to get back in the saddle.

Not a mountain bike, but I think this is the only bicycle thread so I hope you guys don't mind me putting this here.

Been looking for a nice vintage road bike to fix up and ride. My Brother-in-law recently told me he would give me his 27" 10 speed 1970s Takara. So here are the first pics I took of it before I start cleaning it up. All it really needs is tires/tubes and hopefully just adjusting the derailleur. Any recomendations for a faily inexpensive bike stand?

Nice, Mark! Check out the thread below. It's in the exhibit hall, so I didn't find it at first either.

Anyone here use Strava? I'm probably 1/10th as hardcore as most of you and just signed up, but we should get a m|u club to check out what we're all up to.

Look me up if you're in the neighborhood:

I'm on Strava, but mostly for running. That said, I have been riding a lot in the past week since I injured my hip in a fall during a trail race. Strangely I feel it if I try to run, but I can ride without pain.

forgot to watch the video..if it's the one I think it is it's the Intense trail that Intense pros cut for DH practice. (east side of the hill right?) If it is bring your DH rig because it has some serious sections.

As far as being illegal it's all part of Cleveland National forest and you can drive it as long as you have an adventure pass. part of the problemin the area just like a lot of SoCal is the enviro-nazi's that want to shut everything down. I used to go to trail access meetings put on by the Forest service and someone representing the Sierra Club ALWAYS showed up and wanted everything shut down to anyone that wasn't walking. Every rep I saw was completley one sided and would not even attempt to compromise on trail access.

Anyways, if you're into slalom tracks I can point you to the old Intense practice track in Riverside as well as some "stunts that have been built near it. There's also a slalom track in Irvine but I never found that one. I've also found a bunch of dirt jumps in good condition here in Sycamore Canyon which would have absolutley nothing to do with the fact Jenson's warehouse is next to it

so i finally remembered to watch the vid...and it's not the trail I was thinking of. TBH I'm not sure why all the DH rigs in the vid, it's slightly overkill there.

So I've had my new Monarch on the bike for several rides now, and I've spent some time dialing it in and getting the rest of the bike set up to match (had to tweak the front fork settings a bit to get the bike balanced). I have to say that the difference is really noticeable. My average speed on this bike for the timed loop I normally do has always been around 3/4 of a mph slower on this bike than on my hardtail - a difference I always attributed to the 4 lb weight difference in the bikes.

Now with the Monarch dialed in, the bike is totally hooked up. I can carry a LOT more speed in a lot more places than I used to, and the Garmin concurs, with around a 1.4 mph average speed improvement. The rear tire stays planted in spots where it used to kick out, and it's quite a bit smoother on climbs. The Monarch did knock almost a pound off the bike (218g on the food scale as opposed to 629 for the Fox), but I doubt that makes much of a difference.

I had the bike out for around 4 hrs yesterday (major props to the folks at MORE for getting the trails cleared in record time after last week's storm), and I really had the hammer down the entire time.

The shock was definitely a nice upgrade, and this is now my primary mtn bike.
