Default Exotic Pets

So the apartment I'm currently in doesn't allow for a dog or cat. One of the landlords is apparently hyperallergic to cats and dogs. They've said that they might consider a small cage-type pet though. So, anyone have an "exotic" pet like a house rabbit or ferret or anything?

OOO get a BUNNY!!! Bunnies are super cute and can be litterboxed trained. A girl I knew I LA had one in her apartment and he was so cute and smart.
And they smell MUCH better than ferrets.

Jomo had some pretty sweet pics of snakes he raised. They were either in here or exhibit hall, if you want a scaley thing, I would say talk to him. Oh, the one girl, whose name I'm blanking on raised snakes too.... Blue R56...

Looking for others experiences with alternative pets.

I've been reading about house bunnies. They are awesome but take alot of work to train. Looking at chinchillas too.

Chinchillas are great too...just make sure you don't put their cage in the room where you sleep because they are very nocturnal and will run around the cage and drive you completely insane at night.

I had a mini lop bunny when I was younger and we had it litter box trained. He would sit up and scratch at the sliding door when he had to go out and use his litter box outside in his cage. Never had any accidents inside once he was trained. Bunnys are awesome too.

ferrets are cool. they don't take up too much space, but unless you're into cleaning them (and even if you are) they get smelly fast...

I have bad luck with exotic pets. When I was little I was attacked by a bunny and in Afghanistan I was attacked by our pet monkey. We had a Ferret around the sleeping areas for pest control but then when one of the dogs on site had puppies the ferret tried to get one of them and lost that battle. Then I read this in the news earlier: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,494067,00.html
Whatever you get good luck, I'm sticking with Chia Pets for now.

My daughter owns a ginnie pig, which are pretty cool. Much better than I thought it would be. But back in our apartment days we owned ferrets and they make great pets. They are pretty smart and can be litter box trained. Plus, they are very social animals and love to play. Kind of like a kitten, but they never grow out of it. Two are definitely better than one. They do have scent sacs like a skunk, but they don't spray. Most places you buy them remove the sacs which definitely extends the time between baths.
