Looks good Lag!

I think the boot handle is probably blacked out w/ vinyl. We'll let Lag confirm that though!

ahh... I wonder if blue would like that.... hmmmm...

seriously though... right now I've got too much going on back there (you know what I mean). hell, he still has the dealer frame on (it WAS a nice chrome plate... before it got pitted to hell b/c of salt). I also left the dealer badge on... mostly because it's a the bavarian flag... which goes well with the color. I think I'm gonna get a black powdercoated frame and take the badges off (except the wings) and maybe I'll vinyl that piece too... hmm.

I'm ramblin again... sorry for the hijack

Yeah, It's vinyl!!! I don't know how long I'll stick with it tho. And I need to get a carbon fiber license plate frame! I painted the "East bay MINI" one flat black.

Thumbs up Dechroming emblems

Lagston -

Good job. Boot looks great.

Been looking to black out the winged MINI emblems for a while now. Was looking to replace with aftermarket matte black ones, like I did on my previous GTI, but couldn't find any out there for the MINI.

I attempted to pull the rear emblem off to paint it when I first took delivery, but was worried I'd scratch the paint under/around them. I understand they're both (front and back) held on with tape and aligned with pins. What was your process for removing?

Also, did you remove the "MINI" domed sticker in the center of the emblem, or did you just mask off and spray?

Thanks for any info.

It looks nice, i dont like too many dechromed Minis, but you do your well. What size tire are they, 205/45, they seem a little big if you dont mind me saying.

Thanks man, the emblems took a while to remove. If I were to do it again I would put some sort of protection around the emblem like painters tape or somethin' cause I ended up with some surface scratches. If you remove your hood scoop you can see the pins sticking through the hood. I used dental floss and slid it between the emblem and the hood to help remove the double back tape. I also pushed on the pins from the inside to help remove the emblem. I ended up masking off the MINI logo with painters tape, sanded the wings and sprayed away.
Good luck.

Lyle
