Cooldaddy, you mentioned on your original post you had a flap less jcw inatake, did you remove it and in turn what would that do? I know the flap opens at certain rpm so that would eliminate the air restriction at lower rpm's?

all it does is allow for some more supercharger noise before the flap would have normally opened. I didn't notice any added performance increase...

good to know, I helped with the JCW install on MiniDaMoocher's S, and we did the "flapectomy" as we called it. There was more noise, but I did not see how there would be that much in gains. If there were, it would be very minimal in looking at the entire set up closely.

Car is lookin good

When Jon and I installed mine, we never installed the flap, so I've been wondering what it would be like with it? I haven't done it yet, because it involves cutting vacuum hoses and such and knowing me I'd cut the wrong hose, and I figured at some point I'd run into someone who has it installed "correctly" and I'd see how it's supposed to be done. So which way are you going to leave it, with or without the flap?

I have the jcw intake installed with the flap since I took it to the mini dealer, as it sounds fine - at a certain rpm range it opens up and you can hear the air more but for the supercharger whine my isn't that loud probably because I have the flap on it. I would prefer to have a bit more noise out of it

Where an alta intake is exposed and open no cover to it so it probably sounds louder?

more whine imo, 16% pulley and 2% crank.. mmm

imho the best JCW intake has the flap removed, the lower plug removed and the over expensive paper filter replaced with an ITG foam filter (better flow & reusable)... this give the best noise, not as loud as the Alta though...

I have the JCW intake installed with the flap permanently propped open as it's supposed to work better with the Mini Madness filter.
