How bout the crazyness of the Confed cup. USA advancing over Italy in that strange way.

Found out today that Oguchi Onyewu ( USA national team member) played for Clemson, I have no idea how I missed this, he is one of my Favorites

Yah Onyewu is a pretty solid player....but as it is, the sport is still under-rated in this country so it's easily over looked....a friend of mine plays on the US Women's Nation Team, and got a gold medal over in China, and even that, didnt get much publicity here only being 20 years old...just hasn't made it into the lime light yet

Lol Italy... "Voglio, ma non posso..." That's their new motto. I think we'll see some big changes in the names on the roster in the very near future. Italy's U-21 squad is doing very well in the U-21 Euro Championship (as is England's ), and Marcello Lippi sees that the old guard just can't carry the banner like they used to. I deffo don't think that Italy has the capability to win this World Cup, but I do expect a better result than they got out of the Confederations Cup.

As for the US, their advancing in the C.C. is bizarre, and they'll need a lot more to go on in the world cup than I think they're currently capable of. Footy here in the states just isn't taken seriously, and until we make some fundamental changes at the YOUTH level to encourage players to continue playing and aid in their growth, we'll never be a serious competitor on the world's stage.

I'll be watching this thread carefully, but won't be around a computer for the next day or so, so I'll respond when I get back. Good call Chris!

35 game win streak shattered at the hands of the Americans!!! Hellz yah...what a game! Spain hadn't lost since 2006! And hadnt lost to a non-euro team since '99......Yah know, 3-0 against Egypt, and 2-0 against Spain, we are starting to turn around since the start of the C.C. finally starting to play as a team
