How to install air horn pak(WOLO bad boy) - R56

remove all fasteners from pass. fwd wheel well(approx. 10 total) (3 screws underneath) (tools:phillips and a torx, 10mm wrench)


access 2 stock horns. remove electrical plugs from horns, remove both horns.


remove the inbd bracket that is attached to frame for modification. leave otbd bracket attached to frame.


this braket will need to be bent and a small piece sticking out will need to be removed. I also had to drill the bottom hole bigger to accomodate the larger bolt. see next pic.


this is the moded bracket attached to the new horn. reattach on inbd side.


new horn attached to inbd side, will fit nicely ( make sure its not rubbing anyother parts)


remove electrical connector from either horn. make 2 small 16ga wire jumers, and solder into plug. I also used epoxy to seal all connection points


look at existing wire harness to determine + and - as the air horns need polarity.


attach jumpers to horn and reinsert orignal plug into harness. test horn!I wrapped the other wire up and zip tied it to the otbd bracket.


reinstall wheel well shroud. Done.

Dang, Maybe I should just get the Wolo horns then... I have the Howards Hog Horns from my Harley... The bracket that held them on snapped one day and I never put them back on. Fast forward to a few months ago, and I foudn them in a crate and guess what? They still work! Now to find just enough space in the mini somewhere to fit them.

Here is what they look like:

The compressor is hiding under the cow bell/old horn cover...

I do not think they will fit where you stashed yours. I like how yours are nice and hidden though. I may have to consider the Wolo horn pak.

you didn't run new power cable to the battery and a relay to run them? you haven't tested them yet right? I did the same on my Subaru and the 20A fuse last oh, about 1/2 second.

No I did npt use the relay because I did not hook them up along with the other horns. I used it as a replacement, and yea it works well!!

Yeah they claim that they make 174db of sound... All I know is , is you could actually see people jump in their cars when I got up behind them and hit the horn button! All that because a semi-truck almost wiped me out as he changed lanes into my lane on 95 south in Philly... I laid on my horn, but he couldn't hear me, as he was jamming to some tunes I guess... I ended up getting ahead of him on the inside shoulder... I was lucky. After the horn change, I had no more issues

so you can stand on it without blowing the fuse? good to know....I'm putting a pair of Stebel Compact Nautilus on mine and I'd love not to have to run new wire and just do the easy install.

Thanks for the DIY OP. Completed it this weekend in two hours. Removing the bracket for modification was a real pain and I could not get the bracket to sit firmly after I bent it. I tightened the bolt as much as possible, though, and have minimal amount of play. I recommend having a vice on hand to get a good bend and to enlarge the bracket hole.

the Wolo horn itself is a bit more hollow than I was hoping. Kind of high pitched too, but better to have a horn than none at all.
