Default How "militarized" is your local PD?

Curious what your local police department got from the military? Here's a searchable database where you can view what weapons and equipment were acquired from DOD.

I was too lazy to scroll through and find any militarization, but had a good chuckle at a single bicycle that cost $2k haha

It's because for whatever reason, guns are only listed in quantities of 1 per row while other items all seem to have the entire quantity listed on one single line.

I don't get the big fuss over the "militarization" of the police.

Either the DOD can sell it to your local PD at a discount or they can sell it to Russia, China or Korea.

The fuss stems from the "big brother" mindset.

I was so embarrassed when I saw the piece John Oliver did on Ferguson Mo, it's only 30 min. from me, and I know it's a comedy/entertainment show, but I have to agree with a point they made.
It's not the police departments having this stuff, it's the issue of are they trained properly to use it, including psychologically.

Face it, the most dangerous weapon the world, "isn't" if it's in the right hands.

Hahaha how the heck do you see an "if not A then B" relationship between those two things?

The DoD isn't "selling", they're "giving":

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...ent-last-year/

One problem with the program is that, in effect, it creates a standing army to be used against the general population, circumventing that pesky constitutional rule about not using the "military" to quell disturbances...
If the local PD has the same equipment, training, rules of engagement and "us vs. them" mindset as the military - they are, de facto, the military.

Being military myself it does bother me that the local PD has this much gear. Mostly because I joined to defend the Constitution not to defend a police state

That's pretty much my sentiment as well
