A lot of painters do this. It's called "trimming out". It's considered an additional detail that not all painters take the time to do. The door jambs and similar areas take a bit more time and attention to detail in order to ensure full coverage and even color. Many guys will do it, and then paint the interior parts of the doors the same way, mount the doors and hood, etc, then paint the entire outside of the car in one shot. Also, some guys will use a full size gun for large panels and a detail gun for edges/trim. This would mean changing guns mid paint job. It's just an extra step that makes painting easier down the road.

^this.

The jambs are sometimes shot in single stage since its easier to get perfect and it looks acceptable when finished. Once the jambs are done, the panels are usually hung back on the car and the body is shot all at once.

You can tell if a car was painted when it was apart. If you paint doors or fenders while they are laying down and not vertical like they are hanging on the side of the car, the metallic in the paint lays differently and paint tends to lay in the wrong parts of the body lines and it just looks off.

Making more progress. The inside of the doors are painted and ready to be hung. Might have paint on the car tomorrow. Woot!

Looks like a "wet room" from Dexter....

You have a paint guy that's giving you the extra mile.... Quality work...

Thanks. I'm freaking pumped. Still needs color sanding and a buff/polish believe it or not. Haha. That all will happen next week. Then hopefully back to my garage.
