Put together an in depth look at the progress recently and began tearing apart the 1275.

I am sorry that you are disappointed in your R53 Rally. I am glad that the progress on your classic is going forward!!. read the article yesterday

In anticipation of the engine build, I went ahead and pulled the 998 A-Series out and began deciphering the wiring mess under the hood. With a previous owner adding a stereo himself, it has taken some time to figure out what he added to the stock loom.

I proceeded to get the car up high on 4 jack stands because the next step is to address the rusty floors and sills. Somewhere along the way, someone decided it'd be a grand idea to simply weld a patch over a rust spot of the sills, leaving the old sill to rust away behind the new panel. The Mini sills are already notorious rust spots, but this certainly didn't help the situation. A little poking revealed what I'm up against. I already have all the panels to completely replace it all.

Looks like you're making progress. Love watching this. You do such a great job capturing this build. I'm hoping to start motor work soon, too.

I spent the day tinkering with the Mini once again.

I removed the old rear valance as it had taken a beating and began to rust from the inside out.

I dropped out the rear subframe in anticipation of rebuilding the suspension and it allowed me to get to the valance block-off plates.

There's still some work to be done underneath, but I went ahead and mocked up the new valance.

As the day went on, I moved over to the workbench to work on the head. I fabbed up some plugs so I can convert the K1100 head to a dry tooth belt drive system for the cams.

Mini's and rust - together forever!

Have you considered the SC Twinkam kits?
