Question Kumho Ecsta 4X - anybody running these yet?

Eyeballing these for my late fall/spring tires on the fugly 16" rims.

Price seems pretty rockin' ($290 for 4 post rebate) and for the intended use they seem like a good match.

However, they are very few reviews out on them at Tire Rack.

Soooooo, wondered if anybody has a set rolling on a MINI or what-not and can give some feedback on how they do/don't jive.

After running the Kumho Ecsta ASX for nearly 4 years, I would say that the 4X, even if only the performance equal to the ASX, would be an excellent option for the money! Honestly, the only tires I have ever run on the street or track that I liked more for responsiveness and grip have been either the Advan A048 (murder for daily driving) and the Azenis RT-615K (a lot of money for a Falken tire). The Kumho tires are inexpensive, responsive, safe in the rain, and overall a great tire.

FWIW, Tire Rack had a decent little video review on these new Kumho tires.

I thought the kumho ASX were terrible. they lacked grip in the corner. but that is just my opinion. However, It looks like you are looking for a tire to last and be cheap and not perform. So they will probably work fine haha

If i were to give an opinion. The best tire i have found for performance and everyday drivability would be the Bfgoodwrich g-force sports. they had good grip and lasted a long time.

I thought the rt615's were also terrible. They acted like they were always over worked. They ran hot and they wore like poo poo.

I did like my Kumho spt's and MX's when i had them though.

right now i am on my AD08's so time will tell with those

This is all just my opinion though

I have a set coming as soon as the wheels arrive. They were very recommended by some of the folks at TireRack. I have had good success with Kuhmo tires, and these seem pretty sid. I have some 215/46/17 comming for an R53 Mini.

WTH? I cannot put the proper tire size due to spell check. Should be good tires regardless.

Seems like every tire I decide I like gets discontinued or superseded to a slightly different tire. They no longer make the Dunlop series I love, now they killed the Yokohama I've been running and replaced it so i'm not much help. On a similar note has anyone run continental extreme contacts? I run all seasons since our weather changes every five minutes.

I just Christmas'd myself with a set of the Ecsta 4x. So we shall see. Just too inexpensive to not try plus they are getting decent reviews so far.

And Chase - you are exactly right, just looking for something to roll in between summer fun & winter white madness.

You know how it is in Tennessee, get those freaky 1 or 2 day snow storms where the Blizzaks are overkill (plus they get destroyed by the 60 degree temps the remainder of the week) and the summer tires just don't get squat for traction.

So here's my stockpile:

- R81 with Blizzaks for snow
- R102 with Ecsta 4X for wet season
- R91 with RE760 for summer

And my wife staring at me asking "WTH are you doing with all of these tires?!?!"...

Now I just need to paint my center caps on the R102 rims.

I'd have one more set with track tires if I could ever find the time/money to have more fun with my car...

I hear ya! Give us a review on the 4x after you have driven on them for a while. I am thinking those might be my next tires once the ASX tires wear out. So far, they have been a long lasting tire that has proven to be more than enough for my driving style.
