Default Hill climbing

So has anyone used a MINI to compete in hill climbing events?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillcli..._British_Isles

Top Gear vid of my local hill climb: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4-DGMrLGnLg

Another local hill climb course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY0W8cMlpEA

It seems quite a major thing in my area and I was looking at competing in some of them. The courses tend to be quite short, doable in a few minutes and they tend to be very narrow single lane roads most of the time. Seems like as natural place to take the MINI up. I do know a lot of the classic mini's compete in a class.

I know its no Pikes Peak, but it looks like a lot of fun.

There are a bunch in my neck of the woods, but I haven't yet convinced myself to actually enter one yet. I've seen too many pictures of cars that have gone off course and into the trees...

http://www.hillclimb.org/ is the site for the hillclimbs, a few of the events are run by the club I autocross with. We also do ice racing, but there hasn't been thick enough ice the last two winters - well, there was last winter for a few weeks, but there was a few feet of snow on top of the ice, so it still wasn't any good.

Thats something that did put me off, then I figured its still better than the track days I like to do, as I only have to worry about me screwing up, rather than that plus other idiots on the track screwing up and taking me with them.

Looks like some really pretty areas to do hill climbs in your neck of the woods.

Pretty rare in the south from what I know of them. Which is a shame because there are a few areas here in the southeast US that would rock a hill climb.

I guess I'd put them in the same category as Rally in this area. A lot of closet fans but when the rubber threatens to hit the dirt/hill, folks retreat to the familiar paved circles of NASCAR...

Regardless of overall acceptance, they are fun. Definitely gets one's pulse up ripping up the hills as the trees turn into a green blur and the engine/exhaust bark into the wilds.

Hell of a car, that Suzuki. I dont think a MINI could compete on Pikes Peak. Should do fine on my local hill climb tracks though. I need to get a Cat B race licence, but I can run my car even modified, as long as its road legal.
