This is absolutely horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the athletes and spectators who have been affected.

Ball bearings in the explosion, says the radio.

I have confirmation that 2 of my friends and my boyfriend are ok. Still waiting to find out about the boyfriends sister as phone lines are bogged down. Fingers crossed

wishing the best.

I got word from 3 of 6 I knew were in the area are okay, 1 I know passed the finish line like 30 min before the explosions.

word saying they are saying they were explosive devices and not an accidental blast, at least 1-2 additional devices were discovered, lots still on lockdown now.

I heard on the radio that they've shut down cell phone networks in the area due to the possibility of remotely-triggered IEDs.

yeah Steve is driving back into the city from work now so he will probably lose service as his place is right near there, he walked through the area last night. He just heard from his sister, she couldn't get a babysitter so she went for a hike with them instead...phew!

(CNN) – Boston police are investigating whether a third explosion, at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, is connected to Monday’s two bombings at the Boston Marathon, Police Commissioner Ed Davis said.
Blasts near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed two people and injured at least 28 others, Boston police said.

The marathon itself, on its Facebook page, referred to the blasts as bombs. Authorities did not say immediately what caused the explosions.

Massachusetts General Hospital said it was treating 19 injured people; Tufts Medical Center reported that some injured were to be treated there as well.

The explosions sent smoke billowing into the air at Copley Square, turning a site of celebration into a mess of destruction.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Lenox Hotel was evacuated, the Boston Globe reported, as authorities looked into possible security concerns.

Off icials in other cities, including New York and Washington, D.C., tightened security as a result.

The explosions occurred at about 2:45 p.m., more than two hours after the first of the race’s nearly 27,000 runners had crossed the finish line.

The race was halted as was subway service into the area.

The FBI and troops from the Massachusetts National Guard were assisting police.

Very upsetting hearing about this. I did hear on the drive home that a Saudi national was in custody. Apparently someone saw him acting suspicious prior to the blasts and then be ran. The witness chased and tackled the guy and waited for police. Thoughts go out to the family's effected by this event.

Three confirmed fatalities (including a child) and nearly 150 injured.

Possibly as many as five unexploded devices have been found and have been deactivated.

The explosion at the library has been ruled not related to the explosions at the finish area. It was fire related and was merely a coincidence.

I'm thinking this is domestic terrorism for this incident. In Massachusetts, today is Patriot's Day, a holiday to commemorate the first battles of the Revolutionary War. There could be some sort of connection there.

No one is actually in custody. However, authorities have detained and are questioning a number of people. There was a Penske rental truck seen leaving the area that is considered a vehicle of interest.

The live speech said it was false that they didn't have a suspect yet. Steve is wandering around like an idiot with the city on lock down but the Army kicked him out now he's headed home....ugh...might punch him in the arm for that one
He did say he has one friend who has shrapnel in his neck and has gone deaf. Fingers crossed he recovers good. Saw some reports that mentioned BB's or something so it's possible that these were made specifically to shoot shrapnel
