Default Loose Shifter on R53

How would one go about fixing a loose shifter? There's a LOT of play in this old R53's shifter. Maybe everyone is right, and I should stop trying to get a car this old to be new again... Hehe

Same thing on my 06.

I thought the center peice around the pivot point was to blame, so I bought a new shifter, and it's all the same...

But I took it all apart and every thing looked fine. Cleaned and regreased and put it back together with a new center bushing thing and it's about the same

That stinks... I am almost certain that it did not feel this when when our cars were new, correct? Unless they were?

I'm guessing no one else has a fix for this. I was thinking about doing a short shifter and replacing that center joint, seeing if that helps.

I'm thinking there is only one real solution.

CAE!!!!

Way or somebody should remake the stock shift box but with all metal construction. The problem is mechanical components made of plastic... Just like the stupid plastic slave cylinder that failed on me 3 times, so I modified a cast iron slave from an old s10

What short shifts come with the main pivot bushing? I thought they all used every thing oem only replacing the lever itself..

to my knowledge that's correct. But I know my b&m one had a slightly larger pivot ball. I would replace it anyway if your having that issue, and re tighten the housing that covers it.
