Default *n/a cooper* putting a cone into the OEM airbox

has anyone ever tried to fit a cone into the OEM airbox of a N/A Cooper?
I think it could work well, just wonder if anyone has ever tried this before!
now I'm going to take some measurement into my airbox..

There is NOT a lot of room in there .... but maybe you can find one that would fit.

I've removed the OEM box and can say that a standard cone won't fit.

The aFe system that I put in uses a fabricated box that fits in the same space as the OEM box, but with more space inside for a cone filter.

Good luck.

that is the best solution in my opinion, BUT its clearly detectable from police, hence the idea of putting a cone inside the OEM airbox. if it would perform at least like a normal foam panel filter, but with some more noise, I would be satisfied!

Wow. I didn't realize it was illegal in your area. I hope you find a solution.

in italy if you ride with 195-45/16 instead of 195-55/16 you are a criminal.
if you violate copiright laws you're normal.
if you commit financial crime and then you became a politician, you're a hero.

I'm gonna find some solution for my OEM airbox...

Your best bet is probably a foam panel filter of some kind. Since you have to keep the stock box you won't get any added sound from it, and having more filter area would be pointless too because of the tight fit, it could actually hurt performance. Sorry bud, I just don't think it's a good option.

I considered something very similar for the S, but even with its larger air box it wouldn't have worked well so I scrapped the idea.

I haven't looked at mine in a while....but there isn't a hole lot of room in there.

BUT.....would it be illegal to have another box in there....maybe paint it flat black to look stock? The reason i mention this is because i believe the stock box has all kinds of walls and stuff in there for baffling etc. If you could get a hollow box....i bet you could fit a cone in there

Mel,

Have you considered a JCW Sound Kit air box? I'm not sure if they sell them separately in Italy.

It looks OEM because it's essentially a new lid to the stock box. The big difference is the filter and an extra intake pipe that leads to the firewall. You don't get much gain, but it sounds awesome.

I have the foam panel filter from ITG and it works great! The Alta filter was good, but the fitment and response I got from the ITG is excellent. I would recommend it 100%
