Default $1,000 Budget...

... better to get the Alta AccessPort or Alta CAI and Cat-back?

I want low-end punch with some mid-range improvement. I'm not a top speed-freak, just want more ooomph from the apex out.

Thanks in advance.

Alta cai is shit, sucks in hot air and depending on what time of year it is can reduce power!

Either a panel filter in the stock box or something thats similar to the works airbox (sealed) it a better option.

Neither of those will give you a mid range punch, stock is fine upto about 260hub hp. You need headers or a smaller pulley for mid range

RMW Tune will be your most noticable gain. Becareful with a Tune if your vehicle is still under warranty. Depending on your Dealer a Tune may void your warranty. Unless you dump the stock map back in before bringing it in for service.

But for Looks and Sound go with the catback! I know its pyscological, but it does feels faster. It will set you apart from stock. The Mini sounds super agressive with an aftermarket exhaust system. I had a custom system built with a Magnaflow Muffler. I removed the second cat and resonator. It cost me around $520. I have heard guys doing the same for around $350. I live in Palm Beach, So we always get raped! I am very pleased with this setup.

I had an Alta CAI for a short while and noticed a loss of low end power and poor gas mileage. I didn't like it and I found that 90% of the vendors claims are false. 10hp /10 lbs tq from an air filter is crazy. I re-installed my stock airbox with a K&N dropin filter and I have been very pleased. I plan on a retune in the near future after installing a bigger set of fuel injectors.

agreed... dont get the ALTA cai.... the accessport will make a huge difference... but if you want a little sounds too you could delete the resonator and the second cat for very cheap as well...

+1 for this . I had an ALTA CAI AND turboback, and didnt like either. K&N drop in filter, and Factory JCW catless exhaust with a tune was my favorite

I too had a first generation Alta CAI, let's just say I wasn't too upset when the time came to give it up....
