Default DIY changing brakes

Hiya Guys,

I just bought a set of APracing brakes, rotor's pads and the brakes itself.

Is there a HOW TO??? so I can switch them myself?!

If you can read german, I could send you a couple of PDFs from the MINI maintenance database

But it's quite simple.

1. Take off wheel
2. Remove complete caliper setup by loosening the two 14(?)mm screws with a wrench and take off caliper.
3. Remove brake line and fix brake line to new caliper.
4. Remove old brake disk (Torx40 or Torx45). MINI says, you neet to replace that screw
5. Clean bearing with sandpaper or wire brush and mount new disk. Tighten the Torx screw to 27NM
6. Mount new caliper and mount new brake pads. Tighten screws holding the caliper to 110NM
7. Bleed brake fluid and refill reservoir.

Repeat for 2nd wheel.

Make sure:
- you have pushed the pistons right in
- you break the edges of the new brake pads with a bit of sandpaper
- use some grease or copper paste on the hooks were you fit the brake pads

Did I forget anything?

Ah yes:
- before you start, top off the brake fluid untill the reservoir is really full, so you don't get any air in your system.
- if you install a new brake you might want to completely bleed your brake fluid. You need roughly one litre for a complete flush.
- If you bleed completely, dont forget to bleed the clutch too
- bleed brake by brake and have someone watch the fluid level in the reservior and top off the brake fluid if needed.

Is that TORX40/TORX45 screw widely found from a Pepboys/Autozone/Strauss/NAPA?


Edit: Never mind, appears that it's only for aligning purposes. The caliper should hold it together, and if you have studs, then they'll align it for you.

The only part that may NOT be easy is bleeding the clutch slave. Honestly, I would just stay away from this part.
Couple of things. Dont add any fluid to the reservoir untill after you compress your caliper pistons, or you will end up overflowing the res. Add the fluid after you get everything installed and then start the bleeding.
You need a good size C clamp, or special tool to compress the rear calipers due to the internal E brake. The need to be turned clockwise while being pushed in. I have always done this with a C clamp and have never needed that tool.
Make sure you keep your new rotors and pads CLEAN during instalation. Not sure I would use any grease near the pads.
It's a dirty job. Haaa. And no, you don't need to get new torx head bolts that hold the rotors on. They do little.
