Personally, I think these make the most dramatic chrome styling statement...

I'm half way with my car. I've blacked a few things. I'm actually taking a direction that will leave me with less chrome then stock but more then blacked cars.

My goal is once I joeymod the headlights I will have successfully lowered the line of chrome on the car so it makes the car appear lower... Currently that was a goal to distract people from my non "Jesus approved wheel gap" but once that's gone on sunday it will be just in hopes to make the mini look smaller.

who knows if im talking out of my ass or it will actually work.

to de-chrome or not to de-chrome.

I want to blaque out my beltline, and my headlights, wrap my grill & badges. Tint front passenger windows medium blaque.

I'd like to leave my doorhandles chrome and MAYBE even install chrome / mirror caps -- so that my satin chrome Konigs look sexier.

oooh, an AB all blaqued out w/chrome caps and doorhandles.

***please -- do tell me if this is weaksauce to chrome my mirror caps***
cuz i'm having second thoughts on the mirror caps

It's just a matter of the look you are going for. I like them both ways....however I just dropped my gas cap and OEM Driving light housings off at the powder coater @ lunch today. Looks like it won't be until next week until everything gets done.

At that point the only chrome I'll have on the exterior will be the 2 Mini badges and the light reflectors. The beltline, headlight trim rings, hood scoop, A Panel "S" grills, door handles, gas cap will all be painted/powdercoated/vinyl wrapped in gloss black. Oh and the interior trim rings and interior door handle/speaker cover will all get a dose of gloss black as well.

Like most people are saying, i dont hate chrome, cause i like it on my 50 plymouth, but on my mini, im trying to get rid of as much chrome as i can for either body color or black. But thats just what i like.

i was actually thinking about this the other day...

i'll say it, i hate chrome.

real chrome is on metal, metal is heavy, so in my mind, chrome looks heavy... ok, so its a little screwed up but its sorta what i think. if i could drive my mini through a 6 foot deep pool of dark silver i would... hell, even my street wheels are the anthracite r99s (when clean, a great match for the paint). my mini isnt there yet, but i'd like to eventually really monochrome the whole thing.

my truck (when it gets moving again) will have big billet wheels and maybe some other billet accents like mirrors, grille, etc. but it'll pretty close to monochrome also (two tone actually, but painted everything).

i guess what i'm trying to say is that chrome doesn't say "performance" to me.

Tasteful use of chrome is cool on the right car. Just don't over do it.

Good discussion. I don't want to go overboard in any design statement. I hate it when I do a drawing or painting and don't know when to stop. I hate to do too much. Sometimes less really is more. That is why I would never get the chrome bumpers. I was walking up to my MINI today thinking I am so glad I never got those.
Now don't get me started on carbon fiber...

I blacked out all my exterior chrome to make my Mini a little less "cute". Now it just looks mean. Besides they all come with chrome & whats the fun in looking like everybody else. I have a problem with modding perfectly good things just to do it anyway. Dont't care for the stock look of just about anything.
