great pics hollis!

I really like how those chrome fog light surround look on Dave's car.

Dave, what do you think of the rewinds with 205/50s on them for autox?

Thanks to Hollis and Chip for coming out yestereday. It was also good to have dinner with everyone last night.

I'll agree chip about that first photo. That's a cool perspective. And that shot under the light rail line is money. That worked out great.

I'm out the door shortly for Day 2. I'll see anyone else out that dragged their ass out of bed to run today shortly.

Holy sunburn! Just got home from the autocross. Had tons of fun. I'm super dirty/grimey and tired so this will be a short post. My times steadily improved with every run I took. My first run was 121 seconds (or 2 minutes 1 second) and my final and quickest run was 115.0 seconds (or 1 minute 55 seconds) on a 1.1 miles course. I ran a total of about 11 or 12 laps.

Jacq was there and was pretty quick (107 or 108 seconds) but he also has the professional motorcycle racing experience. Anyway... a good time was had by all. Can't wait to do it again in July.

There is an event on Monday June 19th with the Porsche & BMW Car Clubs and on July 8th there is another BMW event. I think Dave will be coming down for them too.

For those interested, here is a link to the Upcoming Autocross Dates for the next two months.

Chip: the clock was switching back and forth between displaying just in seconds and in minutes/seconds. A 1:15 would be 75 seconds. That's a really respectable time for your first time out.

My best time yesterday (clockwise) was 1:14.08, which was good enough for 3rd in the MINI class (5 MCS and 1 MC). Today (CCW) my best time was 1:13.6, but there were no classes/awards or "official" times.

The body lean in that one is pretty impressive.

Here's one of mine from Saturday. I also have a few shots from Sunday that I haven't had a chance to process yet.

Hey, dave what did you think of the konig rewinds with 205/50s on the autox track? What class do they put you in (since they arent stock size or offset)?

They are pretty light weight and being 15x7 is good because it helps prevent the 205/50's from rolling over, which has been reported as being more of an issue for people on the stock 15x5.5 width. Overall i'm very happy with the wheels and tires (Falken RT-615's) for autorcross.

I compete in BMWCCA and they just throw all of the MINIs into one class (san diego) or two classes (MC & MCS in L.A.) regardless of the modifications you've done.

I'm not even sure where the 15x7 wheels would put me in SCCA. I know the 19mm rear bar would send me from h-stock to STS, but the wheel width alone may throw me into a mod or prepared class.

That being said, SCCA is not a very good value if you're just starting out (at least here), because they have field sizes that are in the 300-400 participant range so you only get 3 runs in a day. BMWCCA has a hard limit of 80 participants. As a result we usually get 11 runs in a day (8 practice and 3 officially timed). BMWCCA also includes lunch where SCCA does not (your local chapter may vary).

I took a couple of pics - had a good time...I suffered with stock brakes.... I know what my next mod will be now - I still had a fast time - and my instructor was impressed with my times (seeing how it was my first time)... in the last session I ran my best of 107.1sec (Fastest was an instructor in a Lotus at 100sec) We invited Laura to the Wed gathering - maybe she'll join us too...

Thanks Dave. Hopefully next time the instructor I get will be more interested in helping me improve my driving instead of criticizing my tire choice. I know I struggled and went slow in a few spots but I didn't really know what to do or what I was doing wrong (missed apex?, early or late braking?, poor throttle control?). Oh well, there's always next time. Might have to try for the upcoming Monday event.
