i dont think bolsa would work.. when you lay the fabric over the wood, its got to be pulled nice and tight. you wouldnt want the skeleston to flex. you could biuld the skeleton and remove cross members once the shell is done. but u wouldnt want to remove to much of it

Hahah, I was wrong anyway. I think it's Sherwin Williams.

Balsa is pretty rigid, especially if I triangulate it correctly.

At least make the frame with stronger wood.. use the balsa for suport. build it and if it flexes then ya know you need to use stonger wood. the end product is going to need the rectangular frame and a center susportto keep it from flexing when driving. maybe a cross suport.

but we can use the blosa over the frame and then lay the fabric over that. then we coulds elemate the cross susports once the sanding and prep work is done.

ya.. thats it... build a cut out of the shape of the sunroof about an inch wide. so it fits in the whole.

how flat is the roof of the mini? might have to build a 1/8 in step on that frame to have the bolsa wood curve with the curve of the roof.

but thats how id start your plug.

might beable to use a thin light weight plastic also.

balsa is good to use with fiberglass... once its all covered in fiberglass it will be mad strong. at the place i used to work at they used balsa core all the time. you could even use just foam and then cover it with fiberglass..

seriously though ivan, if i were you i wouldn't even attempt to make the sunroof plug yourself. trust me. you can talk jeff into making it.. but if you try it yourself it most likely will not work out. nothing against you.. if i tried it i would fail and i have fiberglass experience. you need someone who is an expert.

So you leave the skeleton in the fiberglass? I always thought you built around it and then removed the skeleton. Hmmm... Guess it all depends on what you're making.

Thanks for the tips guys.
