On an r56 with 17s that's most likely bottomed out body-on-tire (up top)....if not, very close to it.

No where close.

Makes me want to ditch the idea of a 335i and go snatch up an R56 and bag it....

I'm hoping it turns out okay. I have only put that corner down, no clue how the rears will sit!

Make it so

Nice to read your progress. Especially since it's self made.

Shorter OD wheel/tire would be the easy way. I'm sure you could modify the wheel well or strut mount to gain some room, too.

I was thinking I could just pull that strut down ever so slightly down further through the knuckle. Would it be unsafe to do so?

Thanks so much! I'm hoping it's smooth sailing, as well.

Thanks! I'll try to keep it as updated as possible until I'm finished. I'm hoping to make a petty thorough how-to so I can help others get a better idea of what the install is like.

I never, ever, want to have to install another air ride kit on a Mini Cooper again. Absolute torture. Between drilling out the towers and grinding out those knuckles, I'm looking at about 10+ hours of labor, 2 dead/overheated drills (purchased new) and $70 worth of Dremel bits, and I haven't even touched the electrical part of the operation.

Hopefully it's all worth it in the end.

Don't be a pansy. What fun would modifying a car be if it was all just bolt-ins?

Did you buy your drills at harbor freight? There's no reason that you'd burn out two drills with some simple drilling of towers

Haha no, they were not purchased at Harbor Freight (but I do love that place! )

One of them got damaged from hitting the inside of the knuckle a couple times and it made it unusable. And the other one, sure enough, overheated. Started smoking like crazy and everything. Had to take it out of the garage!

Hopefully the electrical part is all smooth sailing, which I'm guessing it will be pretty strait forward.

Yeah, the R53 has way less above the tires in the front wheel well it seems. The weld seam goes out to the side whereas its vertical on the R55/56

Haha I'd bring em both back and exchange.

That said, for grinding I got a craftsman 1/2hp Die Grinder 10 years ago and that thing EATS metal like a boss still. I don't waste my time with drills or dreamers anymore.

I already did bring those puppies back! Only could return 1 though because the other was "user error"

When I upgrade to air tools, that'll be one of my first purchases...

And I agree, you gotta watch out for those dreamers.
