copied from my garage thread:

Been working on the illusional stitching with red threading on the front seats and shift/ebrake boot
Makes the seats pop nicely, and goes with my other red accents on the car (joey ring, pinstripe wheels etc). Always liked the red on black and have been trying to find a way to do it without restitching the seats. Found the thread on the style forum and its worked very well so far!

Some tips if you guys want to try it...
-Get yourself a curved needle and file down the sharp tip (saves a lot of time while also saving your seats and fingers from lots of unwanted punctures/holes)
-Make sure you get under the whole original thread, as running it through the center of the thread will one weaken it as you'll rip some of it and also frays up your new thread. I ran one thread wayy too thin and it snapped a few stitches away from the end, grr (about an hour for each line, eg bolster, seat back, etc)
-tying off at the end, i sew a knot into the leather and tuck it into the cracks of two joining parts (eg bolster and seat bottom)
-for the shift/ebrake boot i used 2 thread thickness, whereas for the seat i used 4 threads as 2 does not stand out much. take two equally long threads twice the length of the piece you're trying to stitch, thread both through the needle and tie them off at the end--making sure they are equal length, otherwise you'll regret it a few stitches in.

pics
(also you can see the shift boot ring [and not pictured the two door handle rings] i painted black tonight too, as the silver is just not doing it for me)

A little hard on the fingers but easy enough just time consuming.

Ah okay. Makes sense, since the Crossman will not be able to seat 3 either since the rear seating is too small for US regulations.

Maybe the Europeans are smaller! lol! I'm 1.83 meters tall, and fit perfectly in my mini.

Actually I can't think of any 3 people that could fit in the back of a MINI, regardless of nationality. Maybe if they were midgets...

so is the configuration of the bench part of the seat different than the us?
'cause if you do that in the us you have 2 belt clips fighting to go up your butt. does the euro spec open up the center area?
and when you drop the rear seat backs down are the center headrest posts in both the left and right side seat backs? does that mean you can't drop one side only without taking out the headrest?

just curious, ive never seen a euro spec MINI in person before.

Been busy

Got the front seats 99% done (all the stitching looks much cleaner in person). Also got the rear seats 2/3rds complete...

IMG_2392.jpg

I had also been meaning to clean up my JCW floor mats... They are amazingly had to clean But once I got them as clean as I thought I was going to get them I touched up the black checks and added stitching to them as well (only have 1 rear one left to do).

I still want to do the shift & e-brake boots, and the rest of one of the rear bolsters... Then I noticed that the stitching follows the front seats all the way to the area bellow the back pockets. So I may go back and add more to have that done too. We will see.
