Thumbs up BMW/MINI roundel

Click the image to open in full size.

• Does anyone know how it was generated?
• Has anyone taken the stock MINI badge apart?
• Is there a stock BMW roundel that just happens to "fit"?

Looks really well-done, and not just an overlay. I've see the Aesthetic Creations ones, but personally like just the "BMW" roundel in the MINI wings...

(Don't h8, apprerci8!)

First, I don't agree with putting a Roundel on a MINI. Be proud of your mark. You shouldn't have to use a BMW mark to justify your car. But, its yours so do what you want.

Now to answer your question, I've messed with the rear badge which I believe is similar construction to the front. The MINI logo is raised/molded into the plastic and that is covered by what seems to be a resin that gives it that smooth dome. I masked mine off and when I pulled off the tape the dome part cracked and flaked like the sugar crust on creme brulee, but much thinner. Basically its not a nice dome that can be popped out.

Because the MINI logo is raised, you can't break off the dome covering and place a vinyl sticker over it without the shape of the letters coming through. I think you would just put the sticker over the logo on the badge as it is.

Edit: This is for an R53. I don't know about newer models.

Thanks!

(I willingly choose to ignore the "marque" statement.)

The front logo center can come out. I don't know how. But I came out to the Cooper recently and the center was missing. Haha

If BMW makes the correct size you should be able to pop the MINI logo out of the wings and replace it with the BMW one. Behind the MINI logo are some raised sections that allow for the logo to adhere to and be flush with the wings.

I did this mod on my mini over the weekend. I read somewhere that the BMW roundel to use is this one:
Wheel Emblem - BMW Roundel - 45mm Diameter - Fits Style A & C Hubcap
http://www.bavauto.com/se1.asp?dept_id=321#top

Removing the Mini cap was not too difficult. I used a large drill bit and drilled into the center of the cap and then used a small flat-bladed screwdriver to work the cap up. It is secured with a quarter-sized amount of adhesive in the center and once you work out past the adhesive rim the cap really starts pulling up.

The front badge is slightly larger than the rear badge and to get the BMW roundel to fit into the Mini badge I used an ignition file on the edges of the roundel to get it down to a size that would work. I did the front first and then the rear. Using what I learned from working on the front makes me want to redo it after looking at how well the rear turned out, in comparison.

You can remove your badges and then perform the mod but I opted for buying new badges and working on those.

Here is what boredom leads to, I decided to bastardize both marques. something to get me by until I feel like kicking out the $30 to get a new emblem.
