imo, chrome is cool on cars manufactured prior to ~1975. on contemporary cars, like the Mini, chrome is used as a stylized, "retro" design element, and is often not chrome at all, but plastic. i'm just not into overt "retro" design references. i love old cars, and new cars, but not old-style new cars.

i don't hate chrome! I just think "Bettie" is far sexier blacked out! I left the Mini wings on the front chrome but am having second thoughts about that! Some look good all shiny and blingy, mine does not!

I dont hate chrome, but every other mini I see has lashings of chrome, some more tasteful than others, I just wanted to be different, so just started removing it bit by bit, then all of a sudden I have non left! and I really like it and so do most others that see it in person, cant be that bad then

IMO some Mini's look better dechromed then others. Like BRG, it would look ugly all dechromed.

I like it. I can see how with right accessories it could work. Sort of a retro British look. /runs for cover

But, I had a '78 MG Midget back in the day with wire wheel knock offs, so those hold a special place in my heart.

I really don't like the chrome bumper inserts on early Coopers...I had to deal with them on my 02 Cooper, ugh I hated them.

lol I love how 3 posts in a row all start with "I don't hate chrome"...as for the big dechroming phase, I think some parts aesthetically look better either in black or body color, and I also think it's just a matter of "nothing else to mod" fever.

Ditto.
Ok, I'll say it: I freakin hate chrome! On my MINI that is, if I had a 57 Chevy or a 59 Caddy, I be all about some chrome, real chrome though, not PLASTIC.

I like Minis with SOME chrome and I like them without the chrome too. Just a matter of what your going for. Just can't imagine a 67 Jag convert without the chrome tidbits as I can't see a modern race car with chrome on it...

I dont care one way or another. Chrome or other highlight accents, such as the brushed aluminium that ivan dicussed, are appropriate in some places.
