Default Beltline Blackout?

Anyone done the beltline blackout? I'm considering it but if I do I feel like I'll need to black out more of the chrome. I don't normally like chrome but in all actuality it looks good with my rims so I dunno what to do...

Discuss!

I'm thinking of doing the striping tape cover up thing so it could be removable if I decide I don't like it. I dunno, I've never seen one up close so I don't know if it will look ghetto.

I know Steve (Steve's Auto Clinic) did it to his car with some 3M product. My guess is it's the same stuff they use for pinstriping cars.

*researching*

I haven't measured it, but my guess is that 1/2" width would work best:

Well, the rubber just above and below it is also black, so I think it would look good in "Low-Gloss Black", to match the surrounding rubber and the rest of the black plastic trim on your car. It would blend in very well with the black backmasking on the windows.

My roof, mirrors, side arches etc. are black as well. And windows tinted so it would just make the car look more 2-tone.

Ivan have you seen it done in person? Could you tell it was simply tape? That 3-M is the type of stuff people use but I think you can find cheaper versions that are pretty much the same.

Yeah, I saw it in person. Applied properly, it just looks like flat black paint. I would get some denatured alcohol from the hardware store and make sure you get absolutely any oil or wax off of the trim before you apply the tape.

Hmmm... good call. I ddn't really think about that.

What about de-chroming other stuff? Think this would make it look weird or not finished? Granted it's not finished but it doesn't need to look like it.

I donno how well that would work, considering it's 1/2" wide tape. You'd have to do flush stripes, and that'd look weird.

I didn't really mean using the tape, I guess I meant truly de-chroming (and if I went that route I'd have the belt line truly painted) I might see if anyone in my local club has done it yet. Maybe they have some left over tape and I can see without wasting much money.

Oh. I guess it depends on what color you're planning on going to. Were you thinking making all chrome black?

I think that would be too harsh. I want to do something to the front grill surround but I don't have a problem with the gas cap or door handles. But if a lot of the other chrome was gone I may have issues with them.

Maybe the beltline would be a good starting place that wouldn't be too drastic then I could go from there.
