So the switch in the ash tray isn't going to work out. The clearances are just too tight and the angle is wrong for all the wiring that needs to go behind it, so now it's back to the drawing board. I don't really want to put it in the knee bolster, but I may have to. Any ideas?

On a side note, I think a pressure gauge would look sweet in the spot between the a/c vents where the outside temperature gauge currently resides

How hard would it be to find a wood panel for the area under the radio? You could always move the switch that is in the large open area and graft the switches into that area. The best way would be something fairly OEM looking, but that might be tough.

It shouldn't be that hard. They pop up often for W201 on Ebay.

I can definitely buy one, it's about $90, but the bigger issue is that the switch just looks totally out of place. It's really modern looking and is huge compared to the other switches around that area

I guess maybe I could mount it in the pocket in the doors?

what about that area behind the shifter console wood (towards back seat)? does the arm rest drop down in there? if not, I'd say there,(if enough room) unobtrusive and hidden by the arm rest when down

fab up a little burl box and mount the switches in it and right up against that other wood console piece

Good suggestion ^^

Can't you wire in a more period correct looking switch?

Inside the glove box for a stealth install? To inconvenient?

Yeah see that's what sucks about this interior. That area you're referring to sits right on top of the frame of the car, and the switch plus wiring is too tall to fit it there

Hmm, maybe actually. I don't tend to fiddle with the bags while I'm driving.

I tried running the wires to the pocket in the door yesterday but there wasn't enough room to fish them through.

You could go old skool hydro status and just put the switch in a box with a cable and have it sit under the seat. That way you just reach between your legs adjust it and put it back under there and no one sees it.

Its not the most "crafty" approach but it very user friendly
