So part of the videos I shoot consist of used cay buying guides, on a weekly base. As the first gen new MINI featured on the short list, we decided to use my car as a rolling background (normally we borrow cars from dealers)...

A couple of MINI-friends started their own garage, and apart from an invitation to visit their shop, I also had some mods waiting to be installed...
No problem advertising a little for them, so we started with the obvious sticker mods:    Oh yeah, and some mods. Finally fitted the E46 M3 handle covers on the right hand side:  And I installed a set of RS-style-doorpulls by Rennline:  Only got a phone pic of the result:  Also fixed my windshield washer. You can almost tell by looking at this picture:  . . . . "It's so pretty, I want to touch it"

So this morning I went to Steverink Banden in Apeldoorn, to have my new tires fitted and get the car aligned. They were very friendly and helpful with my Volvo last time, so I'll happily travel an hour for service like that.
 Weather forecast was heavy rain and sleet, so I decided to avoid motorways and travel on major roads. Good choice, as there wasn't a lot of traffic and I didn't see a lot of snow.  Fitting the tires was quite a job, the AD08R's have very stiff sidewalls, while the wheels have quite a large drop center. Lots of soap, some patience and a skilled mechanic still made easy work of it. The profile of the new tires is a lot more square than the old Hankook's, and those just barely fit under the rear arches. I was afraid it was gonna cause a lot more rubstep on the way home, but there was more room for adjustment as it turned out. The rear trailing arms were adjusted more inward at the front mounting point, while camber/toe could still be set in a normal range as I have two sets of adjustable arms fitted. Front fitment was fine as is.  Some sleet on my way home, but it wasn't as terrible as I imaged. Wet performance seems similar to the Hankook's, unfortunately I havn't driven on dry roads yet...

I seriously considered the AD08's for mine. I ended up not getting them because I was worried about road noise and driving in the wet. How do you find those aspects so far?

These are the AD08R's and they are supposed to be better in the wet. The whole drive home was in (heavy) rain and I didn't have any issues, though I did take it a bit easier. Can't really judge the road noise yet, and it might be a bit hard to compare, as the rear Hankook's had some cupping.

Really depends on the road surface. Overhere (NL) we have a very porous asfalt so we have hardly any standing water. Even with heavy rain. I daily the porker on R888 which is fine. But on the other hand had some interesting situations with the Mini on A048's in the UK.

Nice. I don't shoot video but can imagine trying to edit for such a short time frame with my level of "artistic inclination"

Thanks guys. I reckon I'll go a similar tire on the 964 when the time comes. Current rocking Michelin PS2s and PS3s on both cars and they are great tires.

You might consider the Pilot Super Sport... They are a sportier version of the PS2, a little noisy, but very good in the wet. I've been running them on my Volvo for the past 8 months, would happily put them on the MINI if they were available in small sizes.
