Figured my GTI should have it's own thread, as it's only fair. The short and sweet story is the MINI came off warranty at around the same time we were looking to replace our truck, and it had a better trade in value. As such, the MINI went, and I began the search for a new canvas...I almost went with an A4 ultrasport edition, but at the price it was going for I knew there'd be little to no modding involved. Then I drove the GTI, and coming from the CVT MC I was sold. I actually was going to get a brand new Fahrenheit, but wifey ixnay'ed the magma orange.
Within 3 days of getting the car I had colis on it, as I kept mistaking it for a Toureg in my driveway. ![]() The name comes from the fact that for every mod I've done to the car (which is all of them besides the colis) something turns out not quite right. A tiny crack in the bumper. Cutting the downpipe a little too short on the exhaust so it's melts your bumper. A little overspray on the paint. Your dad dropping a rim on it's face onto jagged concrete effectively curbing it for you (but he gets a pass b/c he helped fix the exhaust ![]() Mod list -R32 side skirts -R32 Tail lights -Votex front and rear bumpers -R-line Fog Grills -Golf GT conversion Grill -35% tint (I think, it was done b4 I owned the car) -Raderwerks 19" x 8.5" wheels painted tornado red with 215/35/19 General Exclaims -Patec holeshot Coilovers -Eurojet CBE -Interior dash tray -Interior Cubby -Euro Light switch Last edited by jC; 10-16-2009 at 01:27 AM.. Coming from the MC I love the power. It's nice to not worry about getting rear ended pulling out onto a 55mph road (where everyone's really doing 70) from a complete standstill. It doesn't handle the corners as well as the MINI though, I will say. I took it upstate to get the coils done, and found some great roads. Unf. the car both b4 and after coils just was not as planted as my MINI, or even a stock S, as my buddy Lou followed me up and was distancing himself relatively easily. Part of it was unfamiliarity, but at the same time I get that "oh sh*t" feeling much sooner in the VW than the MINI. Another great think is the size. I actually have a trunk!! I don't think I could go back to a car as compact as the MINI now that I've had this car.
Problems wise, knock on wood, I haven't had any. There was 1 recall for plastic caps on the lights (where they forgot to put them on), but other than that we've been ok so far. Maybe a little cabin rattle here or there, but way less than the MINI. For sheez on the meets R, and 100% for Waterfest this year (still figuring out how I'll make it over the bridges without bending a rim) ![]() |
