However, the quote, "Premium does not equal high cost. " suggests that this will a "perceived value" play more-so than physically moving the brand in a high-end luxury direction.

I think a stripped Minor could still fit within a "High Quality, Low Cost" philosophy as long as they still applied the same great ergonomics, design, and handling that MINI/BMW are known for. You could still have a $15k MINI that felt way nicer than a $15k Chevy.

If BMW can enter the $15k market it would be a huge boon for them, but I'm almost certain that the reliability issues will drive the people in that market away. That and it will be a city car which is already a mark against it here.

I bet it sells really well in Europe though.

Hopefully with the F56 being thoroughly BMW the reliability will be a lot better. Unfortunately I've seen lots of issues already cropping up though.

Yeah, I have a feeling that will always be a problem for MINI.
