was a little surprised when I read this; can't say that I have had a large amount of high end maintenance for an 11 yr old, fwd, daily driver, especially since I do tend to "drive it like I stole it"

In all fairness, at least they've actually gone through the effort of trying to collect comparative data. Where else would you recommend for the average consumer?

Yeah, I imagine that's due, in a large part, to the fact that BMW's are a more upscale brand. MINI's are BMW's econo-hatch so they cut corners to keep the price down.

Those things drink oil right off the factory floor.
BMW makes incredible cars...but they're high maintenance. MINI makes "decent" cars...but they're still high maintenance. |

The R-53 had the smallest profit margin of any BMW vehicle ever made. It only makes business sense that they will try to " improve " their percentage as each generation comes and goes .
Case in point the r-53 was number one on the JD Powers list, the R-56 the bottom . Not that the JD powers test is the end all but it is an indicator. Top to bottom in one generation ![]() |
