Default Outmotoring Stage 3 ignition kit Review

First off I would like to say in no way am I paid to do this. Just wanted to help out my fellow R53 people.

If your wondering if you should get this I would say do it, I got mine last week and installed it last night. I run a 15% WMW pully so I bought the Beru 79 (colder plugs) and the screaming demon pack. in my kit. As far as bang for your buck I would say it is a good upgrade for just daily driving an OEM+ mini.

Install:
Pretty straight forward just know that there are no markings on the new coil so use common seance when putting the new wires on, it's not difficult the pattern is like this:
43
12

when looking at the top of the pack. Putting the new plugs in works from the passenger side to the drivers side of the motor. Takes about 20 mins if you have a good idea of how to put something back together that you just took apart.
JUST BE CAREFUL when you tighten the new pack onto the valve cover it is plastic and it can crack when it is over tightened.

Reaction:

My mini would shudder when I was in to high of a gear and going to slow, for the most part that is gone, also taking off from a light is now extremely smooth with no pulsing and the car is alot smoother in general. Butt dyno-ing you may or not able to tell idk i felt just smoother acceleration but it may differ by how in-tune you are with your car.

I have an 05 R53 so I have the popping when I let off the throttle and I have noticed that the car isn't popping as loudly and not as often, however when driving with gusto I can hear a pop under heavy acceleration. (I miss the popping personally )

Summary:

Good kit, easy install, and IMO worth the cash to make your more modded mini a little smoother in power delivery.

There are 2 different packs you can get I chose the Screaming Demon over the MSD as the MSD has modifications you must do to the pack to get it to fit on your car, and they are basically the same pack so why pay more to have to do more in your install.

got the same setup a while back hoping it would cure my hard starting(only when the engine is hot) but no luck. I didn't notice any benefits after the install.... but I did get new plugs, wires, and a coilpack, for a 75K mile tune up.

Dump that screaming demon coil it will cause more problems then help. The stock coil is more reliable and won't cause problems.

Cole the hard starting is common shouldn't worry about it.

what kind of problems? I have had it on for almost a year now with no problems.

hard start still bugs me though, i might pull the head and really clean everything at some point to see if that cures it.

A few problems I have seen is a various misfire mid- high rpm, spark plug erosion, coil pack literally melting.

What was done to these minis other than a coil pack, were they running different timing, did they have a tune, these are all things that can mess with a coil pack and plug erosion. From what you said these are the problems of going with a MSD pack not the demon.

Stock tune (timing, fueling), the usual bolt-ons. Tuning doesn't interfere with the coil pack unless you physically modify the coil pack.

MSD and the demon coil are crap..

45,000 miles with the MSD, 7,600 red line no problems to report as yet. Will do so if something pops up. Have not met anyone personally that had a issue but I have seen the rumors.

I have had no problems with the demon, about 10k miles.

I know that on LS engines msd coils are considered a waste of money even on extreme applications.

I got mine because the package deal from out motoring was cheaper than only plugs and wires from the dealer.

Question:
I have the alta pulley kit, 15% and step colder single Prong plugs from alta. what should the gap be? Does alta send them out pre gaped, because i did not check them before i installed them.....

Yes they should be pre-gaped. You can check them they should be at .030
