Default 17x8 et 38 mm with 235/40/17?

I got an email from the vendor saying the only available wheels are:

17x8 et38 4x100 with 235/40/17 tires

Will these fit a R56 dropped about 1.3-1.4" ?

Any one running these specs? please suggest!

KK.

Those will work, but go with smaller tires than they are suggesting - 215/40-17 or 225/40-17.

the wheels came with 215/45 and they rubbed in the rear over large bumps.

Thank you for the reply. I dont think anyone makes 225/40/17 which would have been the perfect tire!

Do you think I would rub with 235/40/17 on 17x8?

It's likely you'll get some rubbing with that much tire when lowered, yes.

You can't push the boundaries on fitment and not run into rubbing. You have to realize that 235 is just about the widest tire anyone has fit on a MINI running stock fenders. You're bound to run into issues when you approach those limits.

Thank you Rally.

Can I get away with a 215/40/17 then?

Yes, and it'd come out looking much like hardingsan's above.

Yes but you're not putting 2 and 2 together.
The width of the tire is the same.... so putting that same tire on an 8" wheel will virtually be the same in rubber clearance if not more clearance since the tire will be stretched instead of square.

You've been given great advice here. Why are you asking for the same advice elsewhere?

Sorry, but I am trying to gather as much information as possible before I spend some money on these!! I could only come across one person running the specs I am looking for: 17x8 et 38 with 235/40/17. So, I wanted to feel a little more confident before I get these shipped out to me!!!

You shouldn't buy them.
