Si - I think the trend in the current economy is to go big by focusing on events with more stature or marketing potential. ALMS has a decent following, but it pales compared to Le Mans and Daytona (Grand Am).

Not really sure. I checked p2closeout.com and they still have the cars listed for sale, so I don't know if they haven't updated it yet or if they're getting new cars.

Yeah, sort of old news. Penske has been saying they weren't gonna do ALMS for 2009, then they announced they were gonna race Daytona Prototypes in Grand Am, so it was kind of assumed there wouldn't be any RS Spyders in ALMS for 2009. Porsche is still supporting the GT2 cars, though.

GT2 is where it's at for 2009. BMW is joining up with the M3 GTR, and there are rumors that a yet-to-be-announced manufacturer will also be joining up. Some people think it'll be the Lexus LF-A, but who knows.

I'd be surprised to see/expect too much from Lexus, but the more the merrier if they do make it out to play.
