Default brake ducting setup

Just wondering if any of you guys run ducting with your brake setup. I don't know if this is even an issue w/ the mini's.

I just got in a new batch of the Carbon Fiber brake ducting backing plates for the e30 M3 from the mad scientist lab. My ducting setup consists of a these backing plates; connecting ducting to the brake duct opening that sits where the fog lights used to be mounted.

This new and improved design has the diverter panel in the back that forces cool air into the center of the rotor.

We tested the original piece w/o the diverter panel against this one at Streets of Willow and saw a difference of about 5 degrees on the rotor surface between the two design so I guess that extra panel did help.

we have a couple of similar setups like that. Mini mania, sneedspeed has that setup, and the challenge r53's have that

I'm still duct-less, but brake heat is definitely an issue with the MINI. I've just been dealing with it by using Motul RBF-600 fluid and Carbotech XP pads.

I've been contemplating building my own setup for a while now. Just haven't gotten around to doing it.

Just showing the options sir! I agree with your analysis on them, but unless you are pushing your car to its absolute limit, I wouldn't think that these are necessary. I am thinking about custom fabbing some at home just to see the effects firsthand!

I think to make a duct that will actually work you would have to go through the fog light holes like the challange cars do. It shouldn't be all that hard. Makeing the mounts would probably be the hardest part.

Do brake ducts help the life of the brakes at all or is it just god on the track?

they decrease rotor temps to prevent brake fade. this can have the added benefit of minimizing stress cracks. usually you want the brake ducts to direct the air at the center of the rotor so the vanes can pull the air through the disc

yes, if you look at my backing plate; that panel in the back diverts the air directly to the center of the rotor.

I would like to adapt something like that to my mini . I already have ducts where the fog lights used to be .
