I heard they are gonna release something that converts your wii into a dvd player, like some sort of software or something.

Sadly yes. Last I heard Metroid Prime 3 comes out in March.

The shop channel worked Sat. night but I've been reading that it's taking such a hit that it's been really slow to connect so I haven't tried it again since. I'd love for the other channels to work too.

I haven't heard anything about DS integration yet. Supposedly the Wii will work like the download stations do in the stores broadcasting a signal to be picked up.

And the DVD player is Japan only as bw said. but I'm not missing the DVD playback so much. My PS2 is just fine.

Anyone tried popping a regular CD in the drive? Wonder if it'll play music...

Cool... Yeah, I've been having some quirky issues with it as well so far, but I'm sure it will all get ironed out soon.

Had a few of my (non-gamer) girlfriends over last night. It was great watching them figure out the controls. Everyone had a blast. Wii Sports is really a game anyone can play and enjoy the hell out of it.

Griff... Regarding the jaggies...

Once you finish all the updates for the Wii, there is actually a 480p menu option that shows up. Change it to 480p and it looks a lot better.

How many updates have you done? I've done 2 and that was the first night.
Did you have yours hooked up with the component cables right off the bat? Did it not have that option in the beginning? I'm wondering if I need to turn it off then turn it back on or something... I have that menu option and have it selected but I thought I went and set that first thing though. I can't remember.

Without any huge spoilers, I got to the twilight realm in Zelda and the game looks a lot better. I think maybe it's just all the grass is individual polygons or something in the beginning. I dunno...

We did have a lot of fun last night. Made Mii's of everyone and had a great time. I think bowling was the biggest hit.

We're thinking of taking the whole system to my family's house for Thanksgiving.

I know, I know...

If my dad didn't keep asking me about Wii's and PS3's I wouldn't bother. I want to show him the golf game though...
