Kimi's manager reports in the Finnish press that Kimi will sit out F1 in 2010. Looks like Button really will move to McLaren.

McLaren will get an all Brit driving team and Mercedes an all German one.

looks like Button was impressed by all the fancy glitter in the McLaren headquarters... for years he struggles, finally all of a sudden gets a championship and immediately moves on... I'm sure there is more to it but it looks like $$$ over some loyalty...

that's true, but he made a big concession to get payed at that low amount this year in order to help out the team. Now they turn around and say, "You know what, even after winning the WDC we're not gonna pay you more. Ok, maybe a little bit more, but still not what you were making with Honda."

I hope he does well at McLaren, and hopefully he doesn't have any drama with Lewis (ala Alonso) but I don't think that the Brawn management gave him much respect in the contract negotiations.

Then again this might have all been a calculated play for Button to bail if it was know ahead of time that Merc was gonna buy the team...who knows.

that's just rumors about them not paying more, the opposite is stated in some reports. lets make up some numbers and say they offered $6M, but he wanted $8M. Worth switching teams after you just got the championship? Would love to have that problem

Yeah, I keep forgetting he's German, since his dad was a Fin.

Just saw a post recently on WRC.com about Kimi going to the WRC next year. I figured no team would pay him the astronomical driving fee that he was asking. At least with Ferrari buying out his contract for 2010 he won't have to go hungry while trying to make it in the WRC.

He's still looking for a ride though. Be funny if citroen put him on the junior team. hehe.

Kimi at Brawn/Mercedes?

"Kimi Raikkonen's management is believed to be in talks with Mercedes about a race seat in 2010.

With McLaren signing Jenson Button, the Finn's manager Steve Robertson said on Wednesday that Raikkonen would take a year off and go rallying instead.

However, with Brawn/Mercedes now needing a driver to pair with Nico Rosberg, rumours quickly emerged that Raikkonen is an option.

Brazil's O Globo went as far as to report that a deal with the Brackley-based team is a certainty.

Robertson would not confirm the news but he did not rule out the possibility of a Mercedes deal, amid reports in Spain's Diario Sport that Raikkonen is in talks with Citroen about a World Rally Championship seat.

To the German news agency SID, Mercedes' Norbert Haug would not shed any light.

"We want to have the best possible line-up and there are still some very capable drivers on the market. There will of course be speculation," said the German"

Lots of rumors today, including Norbert Haug taking over as team director and replacing Ross Brawn. Kimi's own interview seemed to cement the idea of his sitting out the season though.

I'm sure for WRC he would race for much less. Ferrari pays him only half if he races in F1 for another team. If he races in WRC he still gets $25 million from them. They REALLY wanted Alonso apparently.

Button moved for less money than what Brawn had on the table. If you believe Brawn, Jens violated his contract when he met with McLaren last week and so they took the offer off of the table. They also claim Jens and his management stopped talking to them or returning calls a week ago.

Sounds like the old Jens when he wanted away from Williams.

Today's rumor? That Merc is talking to Schumi, not Heidfield, to round out an all German team.

Can Schumi still take it physically is the big question. He is racing go carts today in Las vegas at a big cart event and his practice times are mid pack. Does he still have it ?

Schumacher rumours persist however, but it is unlikely that the former champion could be tempted back to the cockpit.

"The last time I spoke with Michael, I did not get the impression that he wants to make a comeback on a long-term basis," Brawn told Auto Motor und Sport.

Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm told the SID news agency: "Michael enjoys his life. A return to Formula One is currently not a topic."
