Default Textured Accents

ok, i talked to rally about these recently, and IMO, i think they look better like this than in a smooth black finish.

I painted my gascap in a 3M teaxtured black undercoating.

its just an uneven, rippled looking finish. its not coarse like sandpaper, nor is wrinkled like an air cleaner cover.

you really have to see it up close to understand what i mean...

anyways, heres the gascap.

I plan on going ahead and doing my headlight rinds and door handles too.

I'm undecided about the grille though.

should i only paint the surround, or, should i paint the slats too? any input?

my opinion...

Door handles, gas cap, rear trunk lid handle thingy, and headlight INTERIORS in that black stuff.....with an aero grille. If not on the headlight interiors, i would leave the entire headlight chrome....i wouldn't ever paint the surrounds.

Well, i already have the body colored rear hatch handle, so i think i'll just leave it, i dont wanna take a chance at it clashing if i dont like the black back there.

has anyone gotten a headlight open yet? i dont think it would be that big of a deal, but i dont wanna risk one of my own yet, in case i royaly fuck it up.

aero grille....hmm... idk, i was gonna stay with slats this time. what do you think of an all black textured S grille? maybey get an 05 surround or just fill the accent lines on the 04 grille.... would look pretty bad ass -- an all black slat grille on a DS car.

Somone has pics of a painted headlight on NAM's gallery....dont know how he did it though

In my opinion....because you have a white roof, stripes, and mirrors, you car's style is reliant on highlights versus the other colors (black and DS). An all black grill (aero or oem painted black) would be more appropriate for a car that was reliant on shadows/lowlights like a BRG/B or a PS/B. I feel like an ALL black grill might be a bit too much for you "highlight styled" car. So i would use your surround as a place for the highlight. The slats could be black, but the surround could be chrome, DS, or white in order to provide the highlight so that it flows with the rest of your car.

I think the strong point in your car (which is looking great now that i have seen it) is the strength of the white stripes and roof versus the black accents (CF scoop + arches). You want to keep this bold highlight scheme if this is the style you like. Making too many things black risks the chance of detracting from these nice highlights.

It's always tempting to change/mod as many things as you can (I'm always guilty of this mindset)...but sometimes it just changing a few things that really makes the strongest aesthetic outcome.

I think the handles should be black. You might be right about the rear handle. Painting it black might be a bit bold back there...i still dont know. I would seriously stay away from the headlight surrounds, and would really debate about painting the interiors after seeing it with the other things painted. The grill has a lot of options, i just don't think an ALL black one would really work. Something needs to be done to keep it a little "brighter"

well, the no-cost option here is simple -- black the chrome grille surround with DS slats. i'm unsure how that might look....

handles will be for sure, no questions asked.

headlights are still kinda up in the air....

if i could find a pic of how it was assembled, like a blown up pic, i could get a better idea of what it would take to disassemble one...

i thought about white for all my chrome before, but i decided against it.

i think it would be a bit to "loud" and i hate to use the term "ricer" but last time i saw a car with all of the body accents painted white was on a honda.

I dont think there is anything wrong with sticking with a 3-color color scheme. A lot of people tend to go to 2 or even 1 color....but in our rare case with mini's 3 colors is acceptable

In terms of the black surround....i thought of that too. I dont know how that would look. It would definitely be interesting to see You might just leave it this way for a while and see what you think

I would paint the grille slats but leave the surround chrome, IMHO.
Isnt that paint a lot like the bumper coating paint? i love the matte color of it. The handles would look a lot better in body color, I think they might be ugly in black, but its your car do it and lets find out how it looks.
