you know though, those momentum things will only take you so far.

there's a local autocrosser here who's really good behind the wheel, always up for FTD, and drives a CSP miata (i imagine that's pretty close to spec miata). he's just started building another car (2nd gen rx7 with LS swap) because he's tired of getting passed by HP cars on the straights.

Yeah maybe so, there's no accounting for taste. But it's really hard for them to pass you on the straight if you've picked up 10 seconds on them in the twisties.

But as you noted, he's not trying to make a Mini into a fire breather. Rx7? Poor choice, IMHO.

If you want more HP, just buy a Mustang or a Corvette and learn to drive it.

We are working on it

As anything it takes time to get the car to behave with a bunch of power and how it is applied to the ground. The new Mini is a baby still in it's infancy and trying to compare it to other cars that have been doing this since the 90s is doing yourself a disservice.

The MINI can definitely hold its own against higher-horsepower cars. Of course, it's difficult to get around the brick-like shape.

The shape is part of it's charm. And many people like to claim it's a brick. But I can testify that it is more aerodynamic than it looks. I spent a day driving through Wyoming in a fierce gusting crosswind that was only noticeable because the tumbleweeds were rolling at high velocity across the road. I couldn't feel it in the cabin. By contrast, my rental Fiat Punto, shaped like this:

veered and dodged whenever we approached the bow wave of a lorry on the M5 up to Oxford. It LOOKS more aerodynamic than the Mini, but I've never had that happen in my car. Go figure.

I have a conflict on the 28th. Sorry. I've never been on the Speedway so I don't have any benchmark times for there.

Any chance of bringing your rolling show to a Norcal track, like maybe Laguna or Sears or Thunderhill? I have times for all of those.

Gawd, I hope so. And I hope he hasn't improved since I passed him in my STOCK Mini in Las Vegas two years ago during race practice with Phil Wicks.

Ba-ring it!
