See I had this whole plan to get a cheap daily driver after the MINI dies, so I can save money and be without a car payment, but now I am reconsidering.....

Regarding the engine in the current M coupe/roadster, that would be seriously surprising. The current M coupe/roadster uses the S54 engine out of the E46 M3 and the last of the Z3 M Coupes.

sure they will... that s54 is a fantastic engine and they would probably only have a few things to change around. They surely won't be able to fit the new 8 in there... the twin turbo engine barely fits!

Back on up... bigger brakes than the upcoming M3? They look huge, but I can't imagine them being bigger than those on the new M3. Either way, I don't think there'll be much of a market for big brake kits for the 1-series.

Now that really sucks. How similar mechanically is the 1-series to the 3-series? Do you think it would it be possible to bolt in an E46 or E92 LSD?

from what I've been told, the 1 is sort of a cross between the two and I'm sure the rear will be the same as one of them. I'd prefer it to be more E46 just because there are so many options for that car already!

I'd say yes... I'd pick that over the STi or EVO personally. It will also absolutely kill the g37 and 350z.

That would be incredible, but they've been on this "Efficient Dynamics" kick lately, so having a powerful, heavy, naturally-aspirated engine from the previous generation seems a bit unlikely to me, considering the car that is essentially 1.5 generations ahead of the E46. If you say so, though. I'm down! I'd probably take the S54 engine over the twin-turbo setup, weight-be-damned. It's got a cast iron block (vs aluminum on the twin-turbo), it's NA, and it's a beast.

You really think that low? It's only about 6" shorter than the 3 series.

Gabe (MotoringFile) mentioned a number that is fairly heavy, like 3200 lbs. He said it is heavier than the 3 series wagon he currently owns (older model).

I saw your picture and comments about rear seat room and wanted to ask a question about it. When you had the front seat adjusted so you could fit comfortably in the rear seat, would you also have been able to fit comfortably in the front seat? I am 6'1" and in an E46 if I have the front seat adjusted so that I can fit in the rear, I still can fit comfortably in the front seat.

Yeah, I'd be REALLY surprised if the car came in <3100 lbs.

I could have sat easily in the front seat but my knees would have been closer to the dash than I normally like. It would work, but a long drive like that would get annoying. Of course it's hard to tell exactly because I had to use the seat fwd/back button to move it a few inches forward and exit the vehicle from the back. I can't be sure I put it back quite as far as I had it.

I do know that another guy, around 6' got in and said it wasn't bad.
