Default ElderHatesman's Astro Black R56

It would seem it's time to start my build thread. I picked up my Astro Black 2007 Mini Cooper S in February 2013. It came with a few nice options, including the Aero kit, painted fenders, drilled and slotted brake rotors, JCW strut tower brace, and a K&N cold air intake of unknown origins. Here it is as I bought it.

Here's my first round of changes. This was a very exciting weekend. First up, a carbon fiber M7 Vortex 2 hood scoop. The original scoop was nice and melty. It was the one real thing wrong with the car, so it had to go. Plus I'm a big believer that hood scoops should be functional. I also added Lamin-X tint to my reflectors so they'd blend in better.

On the interior, I got Redline shift and E-brake boots in black Alcantara with white stitching. Installing them was a son of a bitch, but they're in and they look awesome, so it was worth the pain. I plan on getting their color line kit and arm rests too, so this will be the start of that theme. A TWM brushed stainless shift knob replaced the stock one whose chrome was flaking. The weight and size are a joy to shift with. It feels very luxurious combined with the soft boot. I also added a Cravenspeed iPhone mount (for Waze - would anybody wanna join a Mini Waze group if I made one?).

I got the H&R coilovers and some new front camber plates installed on Saturday. I'll be going a little lower, but now I need to get some spacers fast. With the new camber and stock rims, I have a good inch at least to make up for to get somewhat flush- it looks just a little silly and narrow at the moment. I like the rims I've got for now; studs and spacers will do until I get big boy wheels with more width.

Speaking of rims, here are mockups of my top 3 choices.

It's funny, amongst my friends, and so far in this poll (though of course it is still early) there is zero consensus on a favorite wheel here. I like all 3 but I feel like I might be leaning away from the CCWs very slightly, as much as I like them, simply to do something I haven't seen on a Mini yet.

Sure, your ride... But why fix something that's not broken?
Trying too hard for something "new" can go either way....

No I agree. I like the CCWs for sure. But all things being equal, originality is in the pro column for the others.

Haha you caught that huh? Actually our friend Tata voted SSRs too, though I suspect that was an accident. CCWs seem to be winning. Do you guys know the turnaround time on CCWs? Since they build to spec, I wonder if there's a long wait. I've heard other similar places are around 4 - 6 weeks. I talked to a guy this weekend who said he'd been waiting going on 6 months for a different set of SSRs. That's no good, so even if I like those, that might be a deal breaker.

I used to go. I've done most of the work on this car myself. And I decided he is a little to far from me. As I'm in HB.

I'd love to work on my car myself if I had a garage or the know how.

I have Professor's old (2500 miles on them) H&R streets.

I'm in Santa Monica. I'll be headed to the SCMM Bakersfield meet up at the end of the month, but I'm always up for meeting up with a fellow Undergroundite.
