thanks for the suggestions guys. I'd love to lower this thing but i'd have to go 3-4" which would make the available stroke even less than what's on teh front of the mini after a 2" drop. Also this thing pops axles like it's a job if you lower it more than 2".

The suspension is due for a replacment soon. I may replace it with suspension off of the SC which should drop it 3/4-1" or so.

As for the plastic panels the more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards keeping it ghetto. I'd like to hear a few more opinions however.

Now to the wheels. These are what I got.

Paint them black or leave them brushed AL?

If you were gonna run it into the ground, I'd probably say bedliner the fenders. I think it looks kind'a crappy in those images you posted, but it might look better on a black Element. If you're planning on reselling it, leave it alone or maybe vinyl dye it.

Just black-wow the plastic. If the plastic trim is in the condition you say it is, try Pre-wow first. I have heard some great things about it (it is a cleaner, much like a claybar is to paint). Then black-wow the entire car... There is a lot of plastic but you really do not need much. I am still on my first bottle I purchased 2 1/2 years ago and it's only a third of the way down.

blackwow is just going to make the grey sad plastic into shiny grey plastic. doesn't solve or change the color.

I say we vinyl dye that bitch.

the thing is from what I read the vinyl dies don't hold up all that well and start to come off fairly quickly. I do think I could get 4-6 months out of an application before touch up... hmmm it's tempting.

What about hitting it with some vinyl spray paint? Just get black and spray all the plastics.

frankly the bedliner looks like garbage, but I ilike the vinyl dye idea.

kind of a strange idea, but what about a vinyl wrap for those panels, either solid color or a design?

ok new wheels are on. Pictures coming soon.

Ordered a few things:
Dead pedal (element ships without one oddly).
12v external thermometer
new hardware for my drivers seat because it's loose (known issue)

I also had the E in the shop this last week. Did water pump, serpentine belts, MTF, full coolant flush, and oil pressure sensor. All for 300 even. Did I mention I love maintenance costs on this car?

Going to add some things that were OEM options that my car didn't ship with.
-Overhead console with map lights
-Fog Lights

also a few Maintenance items.
-New battery

And a few mods:
Permanent power inverter install.

40K in 1.5 years since I got it, only issue was a bad battery because the stock one is junk/undersized...

yeah they are fairly maintenance free until about 100k. Then you've got a few things like valve adjustment and serpentine belts but that's about it. It's fairly feasible to go up to the 200k mark with not much more than 500 dollars in parts labor and just standard wear items.

For reference mine has 125k on the clock. It had 83k on the clock when i got it last january. It now has 125k on the ODO 15 months later

yeah mine needs the standard stuff, I'm at 86K now. And it needs front rotors/pads.

but I love this car. it has no power but the ride is sporty, utility is great, and with the SC interior and upgraded speakers it makes for long comfy drives to destinations with great trails

now that i have teh new wheels on it, i actually agree with you. Kinda adds a utilitarian type of thing to it.

I would however love to slam this thing... but the practicality just isn't there for me. I'm going to do some research and see if i can pull off a 2" drop without sacrificing axle durability.
