Man, that really is a decent and solid car. Too bad I'm not in the market. However, I just remembered I have a good friend who just three weeks ago asked me to let him know if I happened to come across any rabbits for sale. Feel free to post more info here (like Price, etc), or PM it to me. I'll send it on, along with your build thread, and see what transpires.

Fair enough. I actually can't argue with you. I sold my last Rabbit, an '83 4dr L gasser 4spd in 2001, and have regretted it. Before that, I had the '79 2dr auto (rusted to nothing), an 81 2dr 4 spd I wrecked. '84 GTI, and an '81 Scirocco S. Plus a Beetle (still have) and Type 2.

Yeah, given how clean the rest of your car is, the sunroof must be what killed the floorpans. I've also seen them leak at the base of the windscreen, but that usually takes out the electrics before doing further damage. I do think older cars with sunroofs are pretty cool, as they are uncommon. And I always liked the little crank actuator.

Let me ask you something: Have you put a fair amount of seat time in since dying the upholstery? And if so, how is it holding up? From the photos, your dye job looks indistinguishable from original black seats. I'm really impressed. I was going to dye my '73 Plymouth interior from green to black, but haven't gotten that far yet. I figure if it lasts a while, I can spot in any wear areas periodically. But if it happens too often, that would get old, and I wouldn't be able to keep up with it.

I've put a couple thousand miles on them. Still good. It's all about prep work, I used vinyl spray paint after watching an episode on horsepower tv.

The rusted floor yeah I'm pretty sure it was caused by the sunroof failing to drain properly. Luckily it was only surface rust and was easily repaired using por15 and wasn't destroyed
