Doesn't look horribly efficient. Would like to see that muffler in a cross section. Not sure the technical name of there is one.

I've always known them as being a "transverse" muffler...kinda like the '82-'92 Camaro/Firebird exhaust setup.

assuming i know about gas flowing better in a straight line...

what about those mufflers that have that 180 bend on the other side of the muffler to re-enter the muffler? I'm just scoping out various mufflers for the beautiful moment when my muffler rusts completely through.

They may flow better in a straight line, but you need to quiet the exhaust somehow, and bends inside the muffler do just that.

If you must go with something other than OEM or Bosal, Summit Racing has the best price on Borla, and the JCW piece is still available.

But I seriously discourage putting anything louder than stock on a CVT car - it will sound weird. Not to mention that If you really do end up selling your car, stock will always bring more money on an R50, and it costs the least (for a Bosal or Walker quiet flow SS, if not genuine MINI), so it's a double win.

R53's with half the mileage are going for $4000 locally, my R50 isn't worth $***. i'm definitively not dishing out the money for the JCW exhaust.

I well know the folly of spending big bucks on a lower value car. I only mentioned that because I was in exactly your shoes earlier last year, and those were the only choices worth considering, as i saw it. I weld, and considered doing a custom muffler only replacement, but didnt want to roll the dice with the car's sound. I really went with the JCW to keep my car all JCW. I also was blowing a lot of money in general, then. If I were to do it all over now, I'd've replaced the Midlands with another Midlands, skipped on the tuning kit, and gone with the Bosal exhaust.
